So, I've been wondering.

Could one find common ground between:
Socionics(including MBTI/Jung theory)
Leary's 8-circuit model of consciousness

Should be interesting to see. It is highly spiritual, and a little less scientific. The guy was on profuse amounts of drugs when he made up these theories, but I suppose there could be some degree of wisdom in it. In fact, it actually gives you a list of different "mental circuits", and suggests what drugs you could use to stimulate them. But I see potential in his ideas, and Im willing to overlook that. The human brain is made of chemicals, operated by chemicals.

Perhaps we can start by comparing facts. The page claims that 50% of the human race hasn't evolved past the emotional and basic survival circuits of consciousness. It just so happens that the most common MBTI type is...ISFJ.

Layer 1 is present in everybody I believe. Basic behaivoir related to survival instincts.

I think we can safely relate F to circuits 2, and partially to 1. This circuit is stimulated by alcohol. Alcohol is the social drug of choice, maybe because it enhances Fe. Or perhaps it just dumbs everybody down to the lowest common denominator. Both?

I think layer 3 could be related to T. Not sure whether it is Ti or Te. This circuit

Im not sure about circuit layer 4. This is known as the social/sexual circuit. I guess that would be dependant on the presence of Fe/Se, and not necessarily type preferences. There are supposedly no drugs for activating this circuit, except for natural adolescent hormones. This might have some relevance if MBTI type truely is biological, that a lack of layer 4 has been compensated by layers 6 and 3.

I also think it would be reasonable to compare N to Layers 5/6, as most of humanity hasn't reached those stages, and some odd 70% off people are sensors, rather than intuitives. I think Si might have some play in layer 5 consciousness as well.

Layer 6 has to do a lot with 'metaprogramming', which I think could be described as being aware of your own thought processes, and being able to modify them at will.

As for layers 7 and 8, I have no idea how these relate to socionics. I believe they are, for the most part, beyond the capacity of most of humanity, and thus cannot be compared to socionics. Perhaps a few thousand years of evolution will help bring about the answer. Layer 7 has to do with being conscious of DNA/RNA memories, which undoubtedly has to exist. Just look at insects.

Here, I would like to try and come up with what types use which circuits.

enfp : Circuits 5, 4 and 2
intj : Circuits 6, 3, and sometimes 5
istp : Circuits 3, 5, and 4
estj : Circuits 3, 4, and 1
esfp : Circuits 2, 4, and 1
isfj : Circuits 2, 4, and 1
enfj : Circuits 5, 4, 2, possibly 6

Interesting you should bring this up -- my brother, an ENTJ, and I have discussed this before. I haven't put to much thought into the matter nor have I fleshed out a theory about how the two connect, so I'll hold off for now.

With that said, I definitely think there is some sort of correlation between the MBTI and the 8 circuit model theory (which I find incredibly fascinating).
