THAT is a TERRIBLE thought. can you imagine how droll it must've been before gutenberg got his shit together?

i suppose you'd always have your flute, though. :) no wonder history is so full of 'non-reading' material. i'd hate to have to write with a quill pen.

History will keep me occupied. There are more books in existence that I could ever read.

Failing that, however, I will put my typewriter to use for the good of INTJs everywhere. :D

As if.

I am always reading about twenty books. I get panic attacks thinking about the mountains of relevant books I've yet to read.

I didn't worry until you mentioned it. Fortunately, there are tons of books I've not read, and I know that a "powerful lot"* of them are excellent reads for one reason or another. There are classics I've yet to read, libraries full of science books I've not read, volumes and volumes of psychology studies I've never even touched. So I don't think I'll run out. If I do, I'll just go back and read my favorites and make up new ones.

*10 points to the book nerd who knows where that came from (note: not an actual contest, point mean nothing, posts to this thread about it will be deleted, etc etc with strange fine print rules)

...I am always reading about twenty books...

Same here...at least. In addition to INTJ, I also have a touch of ADD, so I never finish any of them.

Sometimes I get the sense that all books start to look the same: The same general ideas stretched out to 500 pages. I'm not into fiction, but it's probably the same thing: a few archetypal stories reworked over and over.

This reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode.

No...I never fear that. I shall never run out. And, if I do (hypothetically speaking, of course) I shall write more, and read them once I am finished writing.

I was at the bookstore the other day and found NOTHING, not one new ''best seller'' or anything else that tickled my interests. Moral of the story - I'm more fearful of running out of interests than books!

Same. I get overwhelmed with the number of books that I have on my To Be Read list on LibraryThing.com (look me up if you have a chance, same username). If you're bored, you can try and look up "1000 books to read before you die" list.

there are enough old books that we could not have any new books come out at all and i'd still never be done reading the ones that interest me

Come on. Run out of books? There are enough unread books on my shelves to last decades. Shudder, sob.

On that day, I will get my behind in gear and finish/edit/overhaul my novel. Technically the writing of it is also the simultaneous reading of a book that never existed before.

So yeah... I'd just write more and pester other authors to type faster.

Maybe someday there will no longer be any current books that I like, but I'm sure I'll always be able to dig in the past and find old books to read.

I can't imagine that there'll ever be no more good books to read.

If you look hard enough, you'll notice that all the good new ideas are ideas that have been done before in one way or another.

The only real difference being the way the plot is shaped, and fleshed out.

I'd like to think that one could put all the greatest artists in history to work on the exact same project; and have different, and compelling results from them all.
