View Full Version : Are you REALLY similar to any fictional characters?
I think -for better or worse- I'm very similar to Meredith on Grey's Anatomy.
And Dora the Explorer is the spitting image of me as a child...
Okay, it's trivia, but I'd be entertained to know...which characters we have resident on the forum...anyone?

Movie likeness: I think I'm really a lot like the wife in The Life Aquatic... (is she called Eleanor?). Sort of distant but not scarily so... just content in my own separateness, warm underneath but a little intimidatingly self-contained.
I don't feel I'm really much like any main characters in fiction.... even those I identify with a great deal like Smilla in Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow... there are aspects of her that are like me but she's so much more forceful and harsh - aspects I admire in her character but don't possess.
The heroines of most classic novels are nothing like me (maybe Dorothea in Middlemarch is closest), the heros are often more like me... but I'd be stretching it if I said I really saw myself in any of them...

I think I said this before, but after I saw the movie I thought that I'm basically a less clever, less pregnant version of Juno. Right down to the same freudian bullshit issues. But also just the actress Ellen Page, I get that I look like her a lot. Which is only mildly creepy, since she's seventeenish.
Another one I get a fair amount is Janeane Garofalo. If you're short with dark hair, and may or may not be sarcastic, the comparison has been made.

As a kid I got compared to Wednesday Addams a lot. That was pretty cool.
More recently I got compared to Oogway, the turtle from Kung-fu Panda. Not bad-ass in quite the same way, but I can live with that too.

He enters every situation with the confidence he can handle it. He does the right thing, to the point of being a boy scout. Even under intense pressure he always maintains his cool and can think on his feet to overcome any obstacle. And he never quits.
Mills and Somerset from Se7en.
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
I feel like watching this movie is watching two parts of my personality go at in. Somerset is disillusioned by society's apathy. He doesn't understand why people concern themselves with trivial things and why they can't be as disciplined as he is. For the most part he's given up on people and their capacity for change. He has no respect for people who are lazy and can sometimes be confrontational about this. As such, very often he finds himself alone.
Mills is still young and cocky. While Somerset feels that in everyday life people are only out for themselves, Mills believes that deep down most people are good. Mills still gives it his all every day because he feels that he can make a difference.
I'm probably more like Somerset though. With maybe just a little of Mills' optimism thrown in.
Ender from Ender's Game
Probably many on this forum relate to this character. Not to claim I'm a super-genius like Ender is. But I have a similar personality. He demands excellence from those around him and even more from himself. He's content to be left alone and doesn't want to fight. However, if you push him to fight, he'll rip you in two.
I can think of a few more but I'll leave it at that. If the thread is still going strong I may add some more later.

"Mr. Magee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." I love that line! He's a catalyst for change in a very subversive way (doesn't seem to know any other way to be). I believe I'm similar to Bones a.k.a Dr. Temperance Brennan, except that I don't quite possess her extraordinarily-hyperboled powers of observation, since I tend to be rather spacey and daydreamy. :(
My friends say that I'm more like Sheldon Cooper, though. This is apparently due to my inability to recognise when people start to get annoyed with me, being somewhat naive and having that classic sheldon-ramble when I explain (mostly scientific) things to them. I find it slightly insulting that I'm likened to an emotionally retarded genius with possible Aspergers, yet I am somewhat comforted by the notion that I actually share an eccentricity in personality that's comparable to my favourite TBBT character <33
Unfortunately for me, though, I far from possess an eidetic memory- in fact quite the opposite! :P
Anime wise, I'd have to say Urahara from Bleach, Lucy from Elfen Lied (well, at least when I'm mad) and quite possibly some Tsundere with a quasi-yanderu undercurrent character.

Combination of Lisa Simpson and Temperance "Bones" Brennan.
I care a lot about stuff, about doing what's right and finding the truth, but I don't think people see that unless they know me very well.
I also care about animals and life in general. Like both of them, I am vegetarian (vegan actually).
I dabbled in Buddhism a bit, like Lisa, but ended up pretty much atheist like Brennan, though strongly influenced by Buddhist philosophy.
I like anthropology, though I find forensic anthropology a bit too tear-jerking a field to do as a career. I was almost a professional saxophonist.

I wish there was a famous character I resembled so it'd be easier to show people how I am. There isn't. However, I've always felt somewhat identified with Rick Deckard from Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, later played by Harrison Ford in Blade Runner.
Similarities with the character:
- He is introverted, rarely has any friends.
- He sucks at life. He does well not because he's a competent worker, but because he's lucky.
- He'll kill anyone without remorse as long as it's the right thing to do.
- He loves animals. He's relatively poor, but willing to spend big amounts of money on a house quadruped (in his world animals are nearly extinct).

Although I'm nowhere near as genius, I particularly enjoy acting like Tony Stark. Although I think he is probably an ENTP or ENTJ, I share the same tendency to create impressive and intentionally eccentric... er, things. He loves working on his cars, but also applying engineering principles to improve his projects whatever they may be. I just realized though that just because he appears to be extroverted doesn't mean he is. I'm definitely introverted but, in a business situation, I can easily become outspoken and aggressive. Besides, give any INTJ as much power as Tony Stark and chances are they will take charge in an ENTJ-like fashion. Finally, designing every aspect of any machine, product or system does require a "mastermind."

Whenever I'm in trouble, like Kervorkian, I try to defend myself. And to me, it always seems like my defense is entirely valid, but to spectators, it's always a train-wreck. And I'm always baffeled about how people don't see the situation like I do.

I've been told I remind people of Mr. Darcy (Pride and Prejudice) and Rorschach/Walter Kovacs (Watchmen), which is kind of scary and sad. The Rorschach part, not the Mr. Darcy part.
I have also been compared to real-life person, Enoch Powell (his personality and way of thinking and communicating, not beliefs).
All men, and yet I'm inherently female...

Personality wise? Dagny Taggart, from Atlas Shrugged. Looks Wise? I dont think I resemble anyone, though I get Celine Dion, Jennifer Aniston and Paris Hilton.. Yeah this avatar is me, and I dont see any resemblance to any of those beautiful women.

The actor I manage says I'm Elizabeth Bennet from Pride & Prejudice. He said that after seeing the Keira Knightly version. His reasoning is that I'm optimistic, snarky, and don't let other people decide what's best for me.

My one friend teases me about being like Becky Bloomwood in Confessions of a Shopaholic (the book, not the movie).
I think I'm more like Bridget Jones in Bridget Jones's Diary (again book not movie)...a snarkier kind of flake, but whatever. I've also been told I resemble somewhat Renee Zellweger in the Bridget Jones movie, that is to say, chunky Renee rather than skinny Renee.

Of the books I've read thus far in my life, I think the characters I've most identified with are the mother and daughter from Amy Tan's book The Bonesetter's Daughter. As is typical of Tan's narratives, there are deep mother-daughter issues and she goes back in time to revisit the mother's history in China and discover where some of these issues may have come from.
In The Bonesetter's Daughter, the mother is raised by a disfigured 'nursemaid,' whose face was burned in a fire and she's unable to speak. She's told that her biological mother is the emotionally distant matriarch of the family that employs her nursemaid. It's only much later in her life, during a time of emotional crisis, that the mother learns that her nursemaid, who cared for her better than her distant family, is her biological mother, and learns the nursemaid's own tragic tale and her real family name. Once in America, the mother marries a young Chinese doctor who is tragically killed in a car accident. Tragedy, anxiety and fear become the foundations of her parenting style with her own young daughter, leading to a volatile relationship between them.
I'm a child of adoption, adopted by a single woman with borderline personality disorder. Tragedy, anxiety and fear are typical traits that can accompany borderline personality disorder, so my mother and I definitely had a volatile relationship when I was growing up. But much like the mother in Amy Tan's story who knew only her nursemaid as a mother figure, I often feel the same way about my mother. Who else could have raised me? ...And yet, she's not my biological mother, so there's the question of identity, much as the mother in Tan's story came to question her own and go on a desperate search to try and find her family name, written in documents given to her by her nursemaid and lost long ago in time.
Another character I often identify with is the emotionally frozen Jennifer Wilson from Scottish writer A.L. Kennedy's book So I Am Glad. Jennifer tries her best not to feel, not to let her emotions upset her and make sure everything stays the same. Until the real Cyrano de Bergerac (not the guy in the play, but the actual French poet and mercenary soldier) somehow returns from the dead and shows up in her life, and they start to establish a tenuous connection. They slowly begin to fall in love, and Jennifer realizes that things can't always stay the same, that her emotions won't be denied.
I must admit to often trying to live my life in much the same way Jennifer lives, and sometimes I think it would take a near-mythical historical figure to suddenly pop into my life and shake things up again. And of course, since there isn't any guy on this cosmic plane good enough for me, I could easily see myself falling for someone out of the past.
Lastly, I find myself often identifying with Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. Horrible childhood, a family who didn't appreciate her, hard worker, went into education, fell for the emotionally unavailable Mr. Rochester who barely even recognized her presence until major tragedy brought them together. And of course he had another woman. And of course he couldn't fall for the "spirited but plain" Jane until he was blind. It never would have happened if he could actually see her and didn't need Jane to help him get around. ...Ach. Story of my life.

My maternal grandmother likened me to Adrian Monk yesterday; she said it's because I always wash my hands before doing things, and because I have an aversion to others' germs (won't drink from the same bottle as someone else, won't eat food they've touched if they didn't wash their hands). I'm hoping it's because I can solve cases, too.
I'm sure I'm meant to get tested for OCD somewhere down the line.

Wow, several people have mentioned Elizabeth Bennet... I'm starting to wonder if she has an INTJ personality type! ;)
Not to repeat a character but... I'm sort of a cross between Elizabeth from Pride & Prejudice (I'm rather serious-minded, tend to form immediate prejudices against people, and have a wicked sense of humor) and Anne Shirley -- a writer who really, really does not like being criticized for her work. =P

Oh, I forgot one. Allison ("the freak," Ally Sheedy) from the Breakfast Club, with maybe a few bits of Andie (Molly Ringwald) from Pretty In Pink. That was me in high school. Yeah, it was like a John Hughes movie.

Hmm. These are who my friends think I resemble, but who do I think I resemble? That's a tougher question.
When I was younger, Marianne Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility probably. I'd like to be like Rosalind in As You Like It, but I don't know that I am. I like her spirit though.

My dad told me I reminded him of Sheldon Cooper from the Big Bang Theory. Sometimes I can relate, but the main difference is that I have a clue in terms of social situations.
Also, I think I am Liz Lemon. Has anyone ever typed her?

Yes! Fuchsia Groan from Gormenghast.
"Less formidable, yet sullen as her mother and as incalculable, is Titus' sister. Sensitive as was her father without his intellect, Fuchsia tosses her black flag of hair, bites at her childish underlip, scowls, laughs, broods, is tender, is intemperate, suspicious, and credulous all in a day."

Two fictional characters that come to mind instantly:
1. Enid from the comic book/movie Ghost World
Thora Birch as Enid, an alienated teenage girl—intelligent, witty, artistic, cynical, sarcastic and a keen observer of the world around her.
2. Kat Strafford from the movie 10 Things I Hate About You
Julia Stiles as Katarina "Kat" Stratford: The female protagonist and the "shrew" in the movie. Kat is a proud, unsociable, nonconforming feminist who listens to riot grrrl music and reads books like The Bell Jar. She is against dating and often "sneers at the idiocy of teenage social life,". She turned bitter after a relationship with Joey, a boy whom Bianca now likes. The New York Times called this "a breath of fresh air in the stifling materialistic atmosphere of today's Hollywood teenage movies." She was accepted into Sarah Lawrence College.

Raskolnikov from Crime and Punishment. I share many of his characteristic behaviour and thought patterns, but on a less extreme level. If I was born into another set of circumstances I could easily have done what he did. Because his actions are morally appalling to me, this is somewhat unsettling. If you could possibly combine Alyosha and Ivan (Brothers Karamazov) into a single (albeit very contradictory) character, I think it'd be even closer to me. I'm suspect Dostoevsky himself had at least a similar personality to mine. His addiction to gambling fits with my tendency towards any and all addictions.
Without the supportive family I had as a teenager, I could easily have become a lot like House. I easily become addicted to nearly any form of physical indulgences, and I have to fight against my natural tendency to be sarcastic and cynical. My intellectual abilities work similarly to his but on a much smaller scale.
Mr Darcy reminded me of me as well, but it's been a while since I read the book, so I can't be too sure. (What little I saw of the film/tv adaptations didn't sync with me at all.)
There's another one or two that I know I felt ridiculously close to, but oddly I can't remember who they were at the moment. I think one was from a David Gemmell novel, and it's been ages since I read one of those.

My family often watches House, and when I call them as they watch house they say "Hey, we're watching you." I don't know if I want to be like House, but I see what they're getting at. :P
Other than that, Dmitry Alexandrovich Sologdin from In the First Circle, Henry Tilney from Northranger Abbey (so I'm told), Nick Smith from Metropolitan, and Razumikhin from Crime and Punishment.
The girl in "Harry Potter" who strays around on her own, says weird things and notice stuff nobody else knows about.
Minor character. Don't remember her name.
LUUUUUNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! I lurve her!
I mean Luna.
I'd be her if I'm not that serious to life and up-tight in most moments. =D If I really have to pick one from Harry Potter I might be Ginny with a little bit of Hermione.
But I think Linus from Peanuts will be closer. Both of us can keep cool in most of the time, but when something which can make me mad happens, I'll go "I'M NOT HER SWEET BABBOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!" like him.
And I do have a secure blanket as well.

I'm very similar to Tom Hagen from The Godfather (as he's portrayed in the film series). My way of speaking is similar to his, I have some of the same mannerisms, my reactions to certain types of situations are almost identical to his rational approach and when I wear a suit I look a bit like Robert Duvall in the first Godfather film.

Characters that have reminded me of myself:
Dexter Morgan from Dexter - Spends a lot of time inside his head and a very INTJ way of looking at life. Feels like he sees things differently than everyone else. Biggest difference: I'm no killer.
Tom Riddle from Harry Potter - Scheming, calculating, charming when he has to, looking for power and glory. Biggest diffrence: I have empathy.
Ben from Lost - Always has a plan. Always has a plan b, c and d. Tells people the whole truth only on a need-to-know basis. Doesn't quite know his place in the universe. Biggest difference: not much.

The Doctor from Star Trek Voyager. If you've seen the show, despite his social awkwardness, the Doctor is brilliant and absolutely competent. He's also stiff and anal, just like me. (Yes, I was like that even as young as 7.) Besides this, the doctor has a silly, imaginative, creative side that shines through his stiffness at times. Also like me.

Every single time I watch Dexter, I get a little nervous because--except for the wrapping people up in plastic and killing them part--he is describing me when he talks about himself. In fact, I almost had to give up reading the first book because I related to EVERY SINGLE THING he said.

Well I've been told that I'm the female version of Darcy Fitzwilliam (Pride and Prejudice), and more recently Albus Dumbledore (my friends insist that I have a bit of a wise and "zen" feel when I lecture and explain stuff-*shrug*).
I haven't found a female fictional character with whom I identify with. The closest I can think of is maybe Elizabeth Bennet and Anne of Greengables.
