The question:

What does jaba mean in the following context?

“She was one of those golden mulatas that French-speaking Caribbeans call chabines, that my boys call chicas de oro; she had snarled, apocalyptic hair, copper eyes, and was one whiteskinned relative away from jaba.”

All I can think of is the colour of the coffee bean and google didn't know either...

Hmm.. that's a good one. I've never heard of that one. I can only get a few things...

Let's see

Mulatas = Mix (black and white)
Chicas de Oro = Golden Girls

So I'm gessing Jaba means not of dark skin or dark coffee, dark chocolate, dark completion since it says "whiteskinned relative away from".

The overall content has to do with the color skin.

Hope that helps!!!
