View Full Version : The notion that schizoid is a problem is the problem.
That's schizoid type of behavior
Most INTJ's are going to be classed as geeks. So we will classify you as such and find a cure. All your protests that you are happy shall be ignored.
The notion that schizoid is a problem is the problem. They cause no harm to others. they are reclusive and so seek solitary work but are functional. They themselves do not see themselves as having a problem. Many professionals are recognizing that it is not a valid classification any more than "nerd' is.
I have become ever more reclusive as I have aged. The need for social interaction has left me. I have talked with thousands of people, the need to talk with more is not there. I would say its the trend in most people. Its not a weakness but a strength. The weakness is the need to interact with others. That is an addiction like a junkie taking his drug regularly. You can overcome it though, what you gain is peace of mind.

I agree that the need for social interaction can be a weakness, but it shouldn't be an excuse for not having social interaction. You should still be strong enough to participate with flying colors in a social environment when you need to.
But that’s just one part of being schizoid. And it’s just a mildly version of it. I like that part too.
But what happens when it gets worse? Then it gets ugly.
Can you give me a link to professionals that say recognizing schizoid is “not a valid classification any more than "nerd' is.”
I’m writing a report right now about different kind of anxieties – also schizoid behavior.

The clear point is that schizoids don't feel they have a disorder so they don't seek treatment. The defining property of their personality is their reclusion. They choose to spend most of their time alone. Now this may seem an illness to an extrovert but to us introverts its quite normal. The schizoids are simply people at the extreme end of the scale. They can and do interact with others but to a minimal level by choice.
They do not have perceptual difficulties, they hold a reasonable conversation, they can be quite witty if in an anxiety free environment such as the web. They do create any social problems so are not arrested. They excel at certain jobs and so are able to keep themselves. Something like a truck driver or a shepherd are ideal for the recluse since they involve so little personal contact but would be hell for the extrovert.
You see it all the time in the media, the idea of "the weird loner". He is weird not because of any action or view, but because he is loner. The extroverts asserting their world view. Yet to the introvert it is the extroverts that are insecure. They have a constant need for affirmation. It drives them to seek company for that reason and for security, the group being a protector, you can lose yourself in the herd.
Being introvert does not mean you cannot function in a social setting it means you don't seek it out. I have been to hundreds of parties, its boring for me, I just don't care. So some guy I didn't know exists, now I do, big deal. He doesn't matter to me, its what he says thats matters. I don't want an emotional bond with him. I am overloaded with information as it is and need my withdrawal just to process it all. Introversion is an inevitable result of people running their brain at maximum capacity. Extreme introversion may lead to loss of new stimulus in order to process existing information but is not a disorder. You see people do the same with grief where they withdraw but their brain is spinning.
You simply cant accept extroverts definitions. They define anything "not us" as a disorder. They are the cool kids clique, they have names for all the other cliques, the nerds, the geeks, the dweebs etc etc

Right now I have the hypothesis that the 4 temperaments react differently to being let down and spoilt in the childhood and other kind of stress factors in their life:
NFs becomes depressed as in sad, oversensitive, moral superior
SPs becomes drama queens
SJs get “obsessions of thought” (not sure about the translation)
NTs get schizoid personalities
It’s a scale. Almost no symptoms with a well-developed human being - to really sick behavior in the other end.
Got the idea when I read "games personalities play"
Check out the poll in the other part of this forum: “Personality Disorder Test”. It fits. :)
If NTs don't become schizoids when under stress/"down" - what do we get?
