I know most people have at least one or two songs that, whenever you hear them in shops or on the radio/TV, you feel like eviscerating the writer/singer/band that created the song. I am most curious as to other people's annoyances, and whether there is a correlation amongst NTs for disliking certain artists or types of song.
As for my three, in no particular order:
Barbie Girl - Aqua [originally], or Samanda [I feel as if I need to consume vast quantities of insulin after hearing this version to counteract the sugary-sweetness]
Soulja Boy [no idea of artist/title, just that really annoying rap that everyone seems to be copying]
Whenever, Wherever - Shakira [The song just makes absolutely no sense]Also, have any of you in the UK seen BBC 3's 'Most Annoying Songs ever' list, and what did you think of it? Personally, I think that Barbie Girl came way too low. No.1 was Celine Dion with the Titanic theme; it's annoying, but ^ those three are far worse in my opinion!

Lol I totally agree. Those songs were all mainstream and they just clogged up the radio.

I think the entire Loft station on XM is annoying as h3ll. Vocal-centric singer/songwriter stuff has these piercing sustained whiny high notes that make me crazy. They go through earplugs. Ugh.

Soulja Boy is the definition of annoying songs. BTW the song you're talking about is Crank That. Yes, even the title is stupid.
Another song I hate is You're Beautiful and Goodbye My Lover (or whatever the hell it's called) by James Blunt. God I want to hang myself.
And that song by the moldy peaches that's in Juno called Anyone Else But You. It was O.K. for about five seconds, then it became the WORST SONG EVER. Holy God I want to hang myself again.

That stupid song by Taylor Swift, Tear Drops on my Guitar. Who gives a flying ____?! My friend made me watch her music video and it was so ridiculous. She was laying on her bed in a dress looking like a supermodel at a photoshoot, cuddling her guitar and whining about some dude.

Whenever, Wherever - Shakira [The song just makes absolutely no sense]
I hate this song, too. Her voice sounds weird, like she's trying too hard. It sounds kind of manly for some reason. One time I had a nightmare where I was literally being pursued by a guy who asked me out a few years ago (I rejected him because I thought he was creepy); no matter where I hid, he found me! Throughout the whole dream Shakira's song, "Whenever, wherever" kept playing in the background. :scared:

Flat beat, by Dr Oiseau (probably a typo).
The most tuneless, dull collection of noises ever to make number 1. I'd love to know who bought this, just so that they could be fed into an idiot-fired power station.

I listened to that one on YouTube and I agree! I would rather drive a fork through my foot than listen to that again. They call it a 'song' but a more accurate description would be 'talking to a tune'!
'Smile' is a perfect description of a chav lifestyle and has about as much intellectual content as a nematode worm.
As for 'Flat Beat', I will not ask why that even exists, let alone made No. 1 [who buys this tripe!].
EDIT: Samanda apparently made another cat-strangling record called 'Whistle for a Hottie'. Do not listen to it if you value your mental health!

I also hate the James Blunt song. And most of the other things you listed (although I don't know what a Miley Cyrus is), but especially the James Blunt one.
I don't listen to the radio or watch much TV, so my only exposure to most annoying songs is when I'm in a public place or the car of a friend, so I don't know the names or artists to most of them. So I'll identify them by annoying chorus or repeated phrase.
The song that goes:
"every day is a winding road,"
the "I don't want to wait for our lives to be over" crap
the one popular song by I think it was the Venga Boys with the "we like to party" crap
also Barbie Girl.
A rap song that keeps repeating "I'm bossy" with a really annoying beat.
The crap-tastic rip-off of an Aphex Twin song which is basically someone rapping off-beat over the original song.
Other things I find musically annoying are most new school punk bands, Bad Religion in general (that's right, I said it) and quite a bit of the music in the Phish genre as well. *shudder*
Also pretty much all "nu metal."
You can probably see why I don't listen to the radio.

HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG WITH THESE LYRICS?
I drive these brothers crazy,
I do it on the daily,
They treat me really nicely,
They buy me all these ices
The radio station was wrong BTW. The most annoying song of 06 goes to You're Beautiful. Or laffy taffy.

Lucid: Miley Cyrus plays Hannah Montana on Disney Channel. Her songs are especially annoying, "Nobody's Perfect" and whatnot. The worst is "You get the BEEEEST of both worlds!" Just imagine it. A girl with a not-so-likeable voice screaming at the top of her lungs.
By the way, my cousin knows this song called: I Want To Jump In A Lake! LMAOROFL Its lyrics goes: I wanna jump in a lake!

I must say that I have always liked Aqua's Barbie Girl. There are not too many songs that can so easily lift up your spirits early in the morning. It is cold outside, you are being driven to work realising you are about to spend yet another eight hours with people you really can't stand. But when you hear that "Life in plastic, it's fantastic..." sung/uttered in that lovely Danish accent you tend to forget the horrors ahead of you.

I didn't know there was a German version of Aqua's Barbie Girl. I've googled a little and the only German version I could find is the one by Rammstein. Interesting though not my preferred musical style.
As for annoying songs, how about Gypsy Woman by Crystal Waters? The song was incredibly popular in the early 90s. It was a regular feature of every programme on the European MTV (back in the days when the channel was actually worth watching).

I'm not Dutch so the translation may not be 100% correct. I've read German and there're online dictionaries. I believe "wijf" is a cognate to English "wife" but I don't know. :p

I am at work at the moment :yuck: so I will have to wait till I get back home to listen to a Dutch version. As for the meaning of the song's title Van Dale's Groot Woordenboek Nederlands-Engels' offers the following translation for "een lekker wijf" - "a bit of all right, a looker, a cracker, a sizzler". "Wijf" standing on its own is translated as "woman, wife, (slang) dame, broad, bitch, bit of skirt". Well, I suppose I really have to see the video now. ;D

I've just googled "Rammstein" and "Aqua" only to find the Dutch rendition of the song on youtube and several other sites. There you can find Ome Henk's version which has been mistakenly uploaded as Rammstein's cover of Aqua's Barbie Girl. Moreover, there is a page where doubts are cast on the existence of the Rammstein's cover. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
In any case, if Rammstein's cover does prove to exist, I imagine it must be their usual style - metal, I guess.

Pretty much all hip-hop and rap sucks. I'm also not a big fan of country. One song I hate with a passion is Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. I also will not listen to System of a Down. Nearly everything in this thread I would agree with! Except cheap trick. Hmmm... what songs drive me nuts:
-Any and all crap from Brittany Spears, especially the newer stuff my sister played EVERY DAY before school.
-Any rap, in particular 50 cent, Souja Boy
-Sum41, Blink 182, or any band that sounds remotely close to them that a high school hormonally driven girl or idiotic guy would listen to.
- The only hip hop song I will accept is Cant Touch This by MC Hammer. All the rest of it sucks.
- Any pop related music from guy bands, backstreet boys, etc make me PUKE.
- Gorillaz is now becoming annoying.
- This will be a shocker- I don't like the Beatles or the Rolling Stones.
- Sheryl Crow makes me PUKE.
- Uncle Kracker is annoying.
- Tiny Tim. Enough said. The spongebob song is the only one he can get away with.

These songs aren't ones that I necessarily hate hearing so much as ones that I hate hearing people sing. They would include Soulja Boy's Crank dat, Caramelldansen, Barbie Girl, and Numa Numa. I would add Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley, but honestly that song only annoys me when people try and sing it but don't know the words... Then again, it annoys me whenever I hear anyone try to sing a song they don't know the words to.

Agree with System of a down, they sing really stupid, they don't make sense, and they don't have to do otherwise because their target market is 12 year olds.
