What're your thoughts on this? It's criticized for not having a firm scientific basis. However, practitioners feel that it is extremely practical. Essentially, the results speak for themselves.

I've been watching David DeAngelo's "Double Your Dating" series (it's all over ed2k network if you want it) and he combines a lot of this NLP in combination with biological theories such as Richard Dawkin's "The Selfish Gene" in order to logically breakdown and analyze situations. It's really similar to how I think and since I've been watching his films he makes certain things quite apparent and it has lead to some noticeable changes within me. Most notably being more assertive.

So, what are your thoughts on NLP? Have you tried it before? If so, How was your experience with it?

What can I say, NLP is wonderful :P

I came in contact with NLP about 2 years ago through the Derren Brown website. I ordered the book "User Manual of the Brain" and I've never been the same. What really appealed to me was that it is a model instead of theory. It doesn't explain how the brain works, instead it explains the observed consequences of that.

It too has made me much more assertive and a much better lie detector. I could read people before, however NLP has definetely improved and clarified this ability. I also use it when I need to get something done from another person. I will choose my words carefully and make sure it fits their internal representation.

Actually, the whole NLP thing opened up a whole new dimension for me and I'm sure it will do the same for you! (there's a little bit of NLP in that sentence ;) )

PS: If anyone is interested in Derren Brown content, send me a PM.

I finished a few hour marathon of Derren Brown clips last night on Youtube and put in an order for some books on Hypnosis, Magic, and NLP from Amazon.

The shit he does is amazing, and I'd like to have some of those powers ...

What's the best NLP book you have found? User Manual of the Brain?

Welcome vulcan,

Actually, I have only 1 book about NLP, "User Manual...". I bought it a while ago and did some research before purchasing. Back then it was one of the top books and a good choice for beginners. I highly recommend it

Its interesting to see we have another vulcan in our midst. It's actually my regular nick-name too. If you look further you will find several more vulcan/spock's on this forum.

I've never seen an episode of Star Trek. I started using this because it was the Roman God of Fire and I was quite the pyro back in elementary school. So it's seen about a decade of use.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

Thanks for sharing. I'm actually looking for that stuff. I already read some of it, but want to go in it more deeply.

I've come to the part of my life where I need to analyize my inner self (and others), rather than just observing and analyzing at the "outer world". And I want to understand myself, my weaknesses and strenghts, to decrease/increase them, I'm trying to find all the parts of my personality and the "perfect balance".

I think it's ok to do things like this, but not overdo it.

I'll be sure to PM you when I juggle some of the things I'm currenty looking at. Thanks a lot. :)

NLP books are good. I found an e-book collection of them, literally hundreds of megabytes. David DeAngelo can be informative, and his ideas and such can be applied to many other human relations than just picking up on girls.
