View Full Version : Your ultimate goal

I'm curious, and this is something I've fought with myself about all my life.

What is your ultimate goal? Be realistic. In all your plans and schemes, What do you hope for yourself before you die? Is it about making a difference? In what way? Is it about self fullfillment? Secretly, is it about loving or being loved? Mutual understanding? Acceptance?

I'd like to know.

I would have to say omniscience. I want to understand it all. I climb a hill to see further. Then I see a mountain in the distance so I try to climb that to see even further.

Its a personal objective. It it doesn't require affirmation from other people, either in love or respect. It doesn't require me to seek greatness or to make a difference. I don't have to change the world at all.

Perhaps thats why us INTPs tend to know lots of stuff, but are are more rambling and eclectic than INTJs, and show little interest in change and success. Its simply not needed to advance our objective of understanding.

I am reminded of Sisyphus rolling his boulder up the hill only to have it roll down again. The S types would say that is enough, the action. I say what is the point of that. Once I know why the boulder is being rolled up the hill then there is no longer any point in doing so. The INTJs are often somewhere between. They often answer with "whats the point of knowing if you don't use it". To which my answer would be "whats the point of doing if you already know what the outcome will be"

Ah, but how often are you right about the outcome upon taking up the endeavor? In life, outcomes rarely pan out exactly as predicted or planned. That's half the fun...seeing you are, indeed, right.

It's a spiritual thing, and I'm pretty disgustingly earnest about it... I think I mentioned this briefly in another thread... many mystics and adherents of various disciplines, mostly eastern but including monotheistic religions, offer that the purpose of life is to realize the essential interconnectedness of all things, etc. etc. And the way to do this is through years of focus and practice (on meditation or what have ye). And that the feeling of joy and peace from the realization is so great that it can't even be compared to any of the fleeting pleasures of everyday life.

I'm inclined to believe these people for various reasons. One is that I've met some of them and they were thoughtful, kind people who were obviously very happy. Another is the neurological studies that consistently show that Buddhist monks are the happiest people on the planet. And there's a lot to get around... all those thoughts about, well, I don't want to give anything up! I don't want to change! It's scary! It's weird! But honestly, I mean, why wouldn't you want to live with an abiding sense of joy and peace the rest of your life? Why wouldn't you want to be one of the happiest people on the planet? I like to think I'm worth that.

What's more, unlike many other goals, anybody can achieve this one. I mean anybody can meditate every day for years. You don't need to be smart or rich or talented. I believe that the people I've met, who are regular people, realized what's sometimes called enlightenment and I believe I can too. So there you are. In some ways, it's the ultimate goal. Freedom from all our fears about what will happen to us. In other ways, it's nothing at all. It is nothing special.

My ultimate goal in life is to find something I truly enjoy and become a master at it. I want to use my knowledge to make a difference to the world and inspire others. Another one of my goals is to raise successful children who will achieve their goals and be happy. So, in a sense, my goals are mostly about leaving a positive trace in the world even after I die. And about the love thing: of course, I want to be love and love others - all normal humans want that, right?

Mainly major business takeovers, stopping just short of monopoly.

Of course I will not tell you exactly what businesses.

I would have to say omniscience.

Omniscience is unattainable. You would have to be capable of reading people's minds and seeing into the future.

My goal is coming as close as I can to it.

Do you think I would waste my time on your business? Pish! I have bigger fish to fry.

To always keep moving forward. To make enough to feed the world, or my little corner of it. An aside did you know that in Seattle apparently it's against the law to give away food unless you are a licensed charity I know because I was ticketed for giving away sandwiches and had to go to court for it thanks to a nice judge I wasn't even fined but admonished not to do it again. Go figure.

Full self expression. I see it as the ultimate form of independence. It means being myself, doing what I truly believe is the right thing and making other people follow.

I agree with not being realistic and...

More completely, I want a fallen angel, and I want to be god.
