I was reading in the Piercings thread, and realized this is a natural offshoot. I searched and couldn't find a dedicated existing thread, so I apologize if there is one (I almost think there must be, it's so clearly a natural tangent).
So anyway, who's inked? How many times? Hours spent? What's your ink? Original art, or flash off the wall? Location of your ink? Done, in progress? Photos??
I have a large backpiece dedicated to my martial art. I'll post up a picture when I can. It's still in progress, and I'm about 16 hours in (we lost count). It's some grayscale, some color. It reminds me of why I go each class, and that I won't bail out on this. It keeps me focused in this, and other areas of my life. I can't wuss out on martial arts, because I would forever have this failure on my back (in more ways than one). It's all original art, and includes some Korean.

I have a small Yin Yang on my left shoulder about the size of a U.S. silver dollar that my best friend got for me on my 25th birthday. She had been hearing me talk about getting one since high school so she got it for me. It is grayscale and it technically was flash from the wall. I wanted something meaningful and that I could explain to my grandkids relatively easily when I am 80. So I chose the Yin Yang because I wanted something to remind me to seek balance
The image originally had a ring of fire around it but I asked the artist to remove the ring. The two sides are now out of balance because the ink creeps. If I knew it was going to do this I would have had the artist enlarge the image to allow room expansion. Now I have to go and have it corrected. But since I have brown skin and the tat is black ink only balancing the void on Yin (solid black side) with the circle on the Yang (in images this is the white side) but I didn't have the artist fill this side in with white ink because I figured since my skin is brown it would be a waste of ink.
I’m sure I’ll get another tattoo. I just need to find something else I can live with for the rest of my life and where I’ll put it. I’d like to get it somewhere relatively easy to conceal with clothing. But I do like ankle tattoos. I think behind the ear Tattoos are kinda sexy and can be easily concealed with hair but it would have to be really small. Then there’s the ink creep thing to consider so the image cannot be too intricate because after a while the detail will be lost.

I've been wanting one for ages. But it cost a fortune to get the size I want. In Denmark a full upper arm tattoo costs 1000+ $, if you want to get it done by a proper artist.
But I want to have one done, hopefully this year if I can afford it. But a new car is more important. Plus a new roof on my house. Plus the dog I ordered... I got my expenses covered lol.
But when i finally get one, it will be: Giger inspired, celtic inspired or fantasy inspired. Properly the fantasy/celtic... I think.

i have two, i would like to get one more.
one was a spur of the moment thing... i got a tattoo on my back with my boyfriend of a trinity symbol. we both have the same one.
then i have an "H" on my right ankle which is the signature design of my husband who is an artist, and i also use it as my middle initial now... i legally changed my middle name to "H" and use the symbol.
for my last one i'm thinking something with the initials of all of the people i love, or a phoenix of some sort, or a pisces symbol

Are you also a Pisces? The third section of my tattoo will incorporate a lot of water.

I have two. They're both on my right arm, they're both very simple black line drawings, and they're both my own variation on symbols that I've seen before. When I get asked about the one on my forearm (the other one isn't visible, even with a short-sleeved shirt), I tell people that it's my gang sign from when I was in prison. I like to see how they react to that.

I'll admit, I used to be more idealistic and pisces-esque when I was younger. I dropped it all somewhere along the way, although the idealism I think came from me seeing the potential in situations, thinking others could too. Ah, the dissillusionment of adulthood.
Back on topic: I've been working on this back piece for a good two years.

I have no preference for them. I don't have any myself.

Well if I didn't like piercings I don't like tattoos.
I don't like the idea of having something engraved on me.

i love them. if it weren't for employment issues, i'd have tattoos all over me. they're addictive. only ones of my own design, of course ;)

What if you don't want them later?

well, ideally i would only tattoo things that are truly representative of meaningful things/events/people/places/experiences etc in my life. if i were to "regret" such things later, i would be regretting those things they represent - and everything to me is a meaningful life experience to learn from... so why would i regret them?
i think too much

Not sure, maybe a different outlook on life, but seeing that each one is a meaningful experience to you that makes up the whole I'd guess you wouldn't regret.
What I was thinking of was
Regret tends to happen when a person finds that what they used to hold value to was false. The higher the value/ the more cherished it was the more devastating it is.
There's also people who don't like their past but that's not you.

I have 5 tattoos. All but one are of my own design, two were done by a very close friend and a third was done by the mother of a different very close friend (both professionals). I will post pictures sometime when I don't have to go to bed 20 minutes ago. :)
There are more that I want, but I don't have the money at the moment.
