Everyone's been trying to pick up the pieces after typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana) hit my country, the Philippines. I'm wondering about things that would benefit the survivors most.. I'm thinking long-term.
If you got an idea, please share. Other parts of the world are also suffering from calamities like this, so I hope they can make use of this, too.
Thanks.

Benefit how? Economically, survival, culturally or what?

I'm thinking holistically, so yeah, all of those and more.

I don't know if the tsunami in Samoa is related, and this may be more of a short-term solution than long-term, but I'd want to go over and help with the relief effort. I've heard that the village where my granddad comes from was hit badly, so I'd definitely want to help out there. NZ has already deployed troops, so I'm unsure if they'll let anyone else go. I'm a student (meaning I'm not rich and that I've got exams in three weeks), and I've already bought a plane ticket for something else important, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to afford to help unless the government pays for volunteers' travel expenses, or something.
