i do hope there are ob-gyne's here or doctors... but here's my q
is it scientifically true that when you're having your monthly "visitor" a woman is refrained from doing strenuous activities? i am asking this question for my sister who was diagnosed by an ob to refrain from sports... she already has complications and there's a risk of infertility... i forgot what it's called but her uterus lowered some millimeters... and i don't see the correlation between strenuous activities and the uterus...
i am physically active as well and my monthly cycle has been irregular ever since.

Hmmmmm... well, I'm not a doctor, but around here it's generally considered that the idea that you shouldn't do much during your period is 50 years out of date or more... these days, it's considered that exercise is more likely to help than hurt. (So I'm curious where you live!)
If the uterus isn't quite all right, that might be a different story, and I can't comment on that. But even then I'm not sure why it'd be any different during menstruation than during the rest of the month.
It is possible for your periods to become irregular or to stop if you're TOO physically active... that is, if you exercise to the point of burning off nearly all the fat on your body. It's often seen in anorexic women. Other than that I'm not aware of any connection between irregularity and exercise.

i live in asia... so sometimes when doctor's make explanations, i highly doubt... my sister has a regular cycle but suffers tremendously when she's having her period and regarding her ob-gyne's "explanation" i'm always telling mom to ask for a second opinion... yep i'm physically active

The best thing to do might be to just look up stuff on American medical websites... it's hard to self-diagnose, let alone diagnose your sister, but at least you can find some of the exercises and stretches they recommend here to help relieve pain, or some of the reasons for irregularity. Good luck!

Tested for anemia? The two are often related.

I am a doctor (of United States History) and I think, as an historian, she may be getting advice that is a few decades/centuries old. My spouse blew an ACL in her late thirties playing touch football and the doc said she was too old to be playing games. She has since run a few marathons, crested a mountain pass of 11,000 feet on a bicycle, and changed docs.

She can *totally* do sports. There's no reason why she shouldn't. Heck, I won a tournament during that time. It was actually the first tournament I won. The thing is, is that while during physical activity, it may be less intense. Before or after it may be more so - unless of course it's a day where you're wearing a white skirt... Also, if she has little to no fat, when it does come it can be really really painful. One of my many instructors had that problem. Physical activity may cause it to be slightly irregular, however that shouldn't be much of an issue. Sports get my mind off it though too.
I'm not a doctor, either but I've played sports for a long time.
