I am considering a move from Mi to Colorado. Most likely in or around the Boulder area. I was just wondering if anyone has or does live there or is familiar with the state. Looking for any info you wish to share. I have heard it is a great state to live in and I will love it there, but I would also like an INTJ's take on it. Thanks

Colorado native here. Perfect state for an INTJ. You can be as involved or as solitary as you'd like. The Boulder area is beautiful. The University of Colorado would give you access to any scholarly pursuits and the area surrounding Boulder is perfect for hiking, biking, climbing, camping, running etc. It is close to Denver for any "big city" fixes you need. I am more in the mountains. We have been hammered with snow! Skiing is fantastic. The changing seasons are wonderful here. Good luck in your decision!

Thanks Daisy. The more I hear about Co. the better it sounds.

I grew up there, but I haven't lived there for 8 years (been back at least once a year). I love it there, I would like to move back. The people are great, they aren't way too friendly like you get down south. And they aren't all stuck on themselves like in Seattle or LA. They are nice but leave you alone if you want to be.
The weather is also great. People think that it's always snowing there, but in reality the winters can go from pretty cold (not as bad as MI though) to mild in the course of a couple days. So you aren't stuck inside all winter long. Summers usually are upper 80's to 90's, but it's a dry heat, so it doesn't feel too bad. With the added elevation you can sunburn a lot more easily, so be careful.

I've lived on the west slope, and my inlaws are all in the Denver metro area. I like Colorado. It's a lot like were I live in Utah, but without Mormons.
If you are predisposed to alchoholism, the culture there might be bad for you. It seems like everyone drinks a lot of beer there! I like hiking 14-er trails. I learned a very personal lesson about static electricity up there. Did you know electricity can bleed back to the sky through your head, or whatever part of your body is highest? And it hurts!

I've been considering a move there myself. The problem with the Boulder area is that it's very expensive. It also seems like the suburb areas surrounding Boulder are getting very crowded. You might consider something a bit farther south like Castle Rock or even Colorado Springs, although nothing can really beat the Boulder area if you can afford it.

Colorado's a great state. Wonderful climate! As Doppelbock mentioned, though, the cost of living can be very high. 4th best state to become a hermit, according to my list. (1. Montana 2. Alaska 3. Wyoming)
:D

Where you chose to live might be driven in part by what you do for a living. Colorado is a fairly expensive place to live, but there are areas of the state that less that are expensive. Keep in mind that, in most cases, wages are higher than in other states. If you choose to live in resort areas, be prepared for very expensive housing and limited technical jobs. If you are one of the fortunate ones who can live anywhere because you telecommute then you have more options. If you are into IT, the Boulder area is ideal.

I'm a Colorado native still living in Colorado. I don't think I'd be happy living anywhere else.
Boulder is beautiful and it's an awesome place to live. However, as previously mentioned, it's extremely expensive. Also, if you work in Denver or in the Tech Center (which most people do) you're looking at over an hour commute in rush hour. What do you find attractive about Boulder? Maybe I can make some other suggestions of neighborhoods if you're interested. One thing about Boulder, and this is either a pro or a con, depending on who you are: it's full of hippies. It's also a really really PC, green, liberal town. As a result, many people move there and get frustrated with that atmosphere and move away. However, if you yourself are somewhat liberal and green then you'll fit right in. Not to get all down on Boulder, but by most standards I'm awfully liberal myself... but by Boulder standards I'm a right-wing fascist.

Any specific questions I can answer, don't hesitate to ask. ;D

Hows the economy seem to be doing. Also any needs that you can see that are not being met. I plan on moving there and buying a business. Doesn't really matter what kind as long as it has some immediate cashflow and potential for growth. Also wanna hook up upon my arrival. J/K I think?

Actually I don't know how our economy is doing. It seems to be fine (no abnormal amount of business closures, layoffs, lack of jobs, etc.) but I'm not an expert. For a more detailed answer than "Um... it's good I think..." I'd look it up somehow. We expect to enter a recession soon with the rest of the country and the bottom fell out of our real estate industry just like every where else in the US. Other than that... well I'm in college and I work part time so I don't exactly have my finger on the economic pulse of the area. :undecided:

Needs that aren't being met... hmmmm.... traffic is starting to be a problem and if we continue to have hot summers and not much snow fall in the winters then it might affect our tourism (a lot of money comes from skiing).
One thing you might not be aware of that you should be is the water thing here. Colorado is basically a desert at a very high elevation. If we don't get enough snow then the following summer usually brings restrictions on water use (unless you're a freak about your lawn it's not usually that big a deal) and also wild fires.
Also, I'm assuming that you have at least a little experience with the area (since you like Boulder) and therefore already know about the altitude and know that it won't affect you adversely.

Another thing is that our higher education money is shot. A bunch of tax laws and some amendments went through that kind of inadvertently killed out state money for higher education. They're trying to fix it though.

However, we have one of the highest populations of college graduates in the nation. We have a very low obesity rate (because most Coloradans are very outdoorsey and many are into health foods) and we have the highest number of micro-breweries per capita in the nation. We also have great wine country in the mountains. And we have a lot of environmentally friendly laws that have been passed recently, if you're into that. The Denver Metro and Boulder areas are pretty affluent and liberal (as I mentioned) but Colorado Springs and most of the smaller mountain and farming towns are as right wing as you can get, if that's more your bag :)
We are one of, I believe, 3 states in which possession of under an ounce of marijuana is a misdemeanor (although the Federal statute still stands of course), if you're into that kind of thing.

Our court system and criminal justice system is rather fucked though. I would try to avoid being convicted of anything here. Also, at the moment we have some wacky domestic violence laws. For example, yelling at your spouse or slamming a door can get you arrested and charged (and convicted!) of domestic violence. Even if it's your spouse or girlfriend doing the yelling or door slamming.

That's my little Info About Colorado essay. Hook up when you get out here? Maybe in a friends kinda way :)

Thanks Lucid. I appreciate the info. Regardless of any problems you guys have it still has to be better than Michigan. This place fricking sucks.

My husband is from Colorado, and we were married there. I'd be willing to live there for a few years!

Oh man I went on a road trip to Colorado last summer and it was AWESOME! Much better than I expected. I went down to Denver of course and I freaked out at one point because for some reason I thought I had genital herpes :/

But it was an awesome trip, except for the fact I had to see the worst movie ever, Evan Almighty (I wanted to see Live Free or Die Hard:cry:!).

But it is a very solitary place when I wanted to be alone people left me alone and when I wanted to socialize people were willing to socialize so I'm sure it's perfect for an INTJ.
