View Full Version : Why Doesnt The Government (UK) Ban Cannabis Seeds

The thought just occurred to me.

After reading in the press over the weeks that our dearly beloved government is going to ban all sorts of legal highs. Lots have already been banned - look at mushroom kits, Salvia divinorum and
peyote cactus that were banned outright a few years back.

All of these have been banned but anyone can get cannabis seeds without any hindrance
(I bought some WW and BlueCheese a few months back over-the-counter in Leeds a few month back - nothing came of it however)

I smell something fishy here and it aint BC.

It seems the government has ideals; the strongest one being that if it makes enough VAT, all other matters can be put to one side. Pure Venality

To my eyes this seems to have parallels with the recent release of the Lockerbie bomber release in exchange for oil rights. Profit is king regardless of morality.

Cant wait to see the back of this fucked up government.

All the best

(PS. by my own admission, this thread had a very heavy INFJ whiff about it - curious these things ! LMAO! )

You may have heard of hemp, it is cannabis sativa too. It has never been illegal, for much of history it was essential for rope and sailcloth. It is still grown in the UK and elsewhere for these purposes (but you need a farming license). The seeds are not a drug, they can be used as a human foodstuff but are usually used for animal feed. In my youth people obtained cannabis seeds from bird food. Cultivation of the seeds is illegal. I am not sure you could tell the drug plants from the seed.

If you were to argue that they could be used for drug production then it is the same as arguing that a knife could be used for murder so kitchen knives should be banned. Ropes must be banned because they could be used to strangle people.

You mention magic mushrooms, but they are not illegal, they are common in the fields. People don't cultivate them they just grow everywhere. It is not illegal to pick them either, it only becomes illegal if they are processed.

Thod's got it right..

Even in the US psychoactive mushroom spores can be sold and shipped, but it is illegal to grow them.

Peyote cactus is banned most places today, but legal and effective alternatives to it are San Pedro and Peruvian Torch.

Salvia Divinorum isn't illegal on the federal level, but many states have banned it. For anyone who has tried said substance it must seem utterly ridiculous to suggest this substance is a recreational drug that is being abused by our youth. I would argue that if parents wanted to scare their children away from drugs, let them try Salvia and many of them would likely chose to never try another substance.

To clarify, hemp seeds, if they didn't loose the ability to germinate during the processing, would not grow into plants that contain THC as they were not produced from plants that contained THC. With that said, there are some countries, like the US, that allow import of hemp seeds for consumption, but don't allow their own farmers to grow the drugless crop. I believe the UK is allowed to grow hemp, so being able to purchase the seeds wouldn't make a difference either way.
