He's become what he despises - a bureaucrat also known as .... a problem, instead of a solution.

I think he's an easy target for people who like to have strong opinions, whether they target bile, or conversely, adoration at him.

I'm no expert on him, but based on the little that I do know about him (a bit of his consumer advocacy history, his opposition to the two-party system, where they put him on the Political compass, and some vague recollections of his presidential campaigns), I think he would have made a pretty good elected official. Theoretically, that is. In actuality, even if he somehow did get some power, he wouldn't have accomplished anything for the exact same reasons that he could never get elected. American are married to the two-party system and divorcing it is not an option in their minds. If anything, they want to renew their wedding vows to their party.

He did some good, then sorta' went off the deep end. Sometimes eccentrics get odd when they get older.

He no more threw the election for Bush than any other 3rd party candidate has thrown an election. People voted for him, the Dems were divided, he had every right to run for office.

He blessed us with George W. Bush and things have been much better since, right?

I characterize Mr. Nader as an "always right" person, meaning his viewpoint is always 100% right and never wrong. Very polarizing person. I've never heard him demonstrate any concept of learning from others. I've never heard him have a true intellectual exchange of ideas.

So, regardless of whether or not I would agree with him, I have little interest in hearing his views. All I would be hearing is how wrong I am to even think of disagreeing with him. That makes him no different than a religious zealot preaching his views and condemning the naysayers.

All I had to do was read the part about Sarah Palin to see that Nader is just another political hack with an axe to grind.

I'd rather be a political hack with an axe to grind than a Pawn of the system (and I mean that in the most devious way) like S. Palin.
Sometimes vigilantism does the body good. I do not, however, understand the demand for a three party or multi-party system in American politics. The two party system is a much more stable way of coalition building. In countries with many different parties the government often becomes completely bogged down and unable to coalesce on any given issue. In American politics we are not immune to this, but having the larger title of common bond prevents it from happening more frequently.

All in all though it is really a matter of preference. In American politics we build coalitions outside of government, in other countries they build them in government. I prefer the stability of our system at the expense of dynamism.

When Nader spoke of a third party- he really meant replacing one of the existing two with his platform, but that is a whole other bag of angry cats.

Ralph Nader at least did a good job as a consumer advocate, even if he should have stayed put right there.
Sarah Palin's socks :p. She has absolutely nothing to offer except knowing how to dupe countryside folks. Her simplistic solutions to fix America are so dated they did not even work in her household and it will lead the country in exactly the same disastrous state. She is even worse than W if you can even fathom that. The best thing she did was to quit but I suspect we have not seen the last of her yet, unfortunately.

While I'm not exactly opposed to Nader's views, I really dislike the way in which he goes about his business. His views seem to favor a far left platform which is all fine and dandy, but he ends up playing into his opposition's hands by fragmenting the votes for the Dems. Just a stupid way to go about things.

As was mentioned before by El Gato, Nader inadvertently played a hand in putting that monkey faced dip-shit (Dubya) into the white house. You would think that would have been a big enough wake up call for him to stop his nonsense. Nope, he just buzzes around like a fly.

Nemesis, true but I suspect that in Nader's narrowly leftist worldview there was not a big difference in the outcome of policy and economic events between a Gore and Bush presidency. I think he is that crusty.

The man made so many contributions to help people and he is an upright person but it's time for him to chose a Protégé before he says more silly things. The Uncle Tom comment was too heavy-handed and I was more sad for Nader than upset at him when I saw that interview.
