My DVD Drive is stuck in PIO mode?

Should be in DMA but no matter what I do XP sets it back to PIO mode. This makes playing DVD movies impossible and ramps up CPU usage :irked: Anyone have this happen on windows XP?

I tried that, no deal. From what I looked into online this is a very annoying problem with XP. It will occasionally throw your hard drive or DVD into slow PIO mode without warning. What drives you crazy is that your system slows down but still works ok! So it's hard to pinpoint the problem:huh:

Your info was dead right on, thanks! After trying so many options I'm thinking it must be the drive itself. Any recommendations on DVD burners?

Thanks, comes with nice software. What kills me is the one I have is about a year old.

I hate that. I have a piece of crap cd drive from HP thats about 9 years old and still spinnin strong lol. But I wont use it cause it sucks lol
