I drink caffine just to stay awake in class... (in forms of tea/coffee depending on my mood)

I don't drink it otherwise (unless it goes with my dessert, or the occasional after dinner tea) because it's just not good for me.

Something at a poster fair at my campus pretty much summed my feelings about coffee.
"Drink coffee, do stupid things faster, with more energy!"

I consume caffeinated beverages very rarely anymore. Generally, only ones with natural content, like tea, or sometimes a soda. It doesn't really affect me anymore since I built up a massive resistance to it drinking large amounts of Mountain Dew on a daily basis in my late teens...

Mountain dew contains caffine?

I rarely drink pop anymore. Usually only when I have nothing else to chose from, or if it's really ridiculously hot.

Again... I seem to recall you're in Soviet Canuckistan, in which case it doesn't, but your root beer does.

US Mountain Dew has (had?) the highest caffeine content of non-energy-drink beverages.

Wow... I finally caught on to that Canuckistan thing.
Anyway... I thought Cola was the only pop that ever contained caffine. It still wierds me out that there are so many tiny differences in random things in the US.

I go through about a gallon of iced tea a day. I think that has more to do with growing up in the desert of Southern California more than anything else. I don't drink coffee, never developed a taste for it, and I may have a soda every couple months.

Nope, in the US we put it in many things. Only Canuckistan has weird rules on caffeine that restricts it from non-cola (and non-Barq's) sodas.

In Canada, Mountain Dew is a light, fruity beverage. It's actually not bad, but most US programmers are totally addicted to Mountain Dew, so they are dead in Canada without caffeine in their Mountain Dew. My mentor, who now works for IBM, said that his guys usually import flats of US Mountain Dew when working on projects in Canada...

That said, Canada is totally messed-up. They restrict caffeine but allow hyper-fortified cigarettes that make US cigarettes look tame because our laws govern the amount of fortification...

I go in and out of phases where I drink caffeine. Right now I'm drinking it regularly because I'm only averaging 4 hours of sleep per night. When I get my regular 7-8 hours of sleep per night, I always make a point to stop drinking it.

Actually some teas have more caffine in it than coffee does. I actually feel worse after drinking tea, than coffee. But then coffee gives you a gross after taste, so I tend to go with tea, taking the bag out after a bit.

I loathe caffeine. It's a horrible stimulant, (meth)amphetamines are far superior. If you actually look up the medical journals and what the government has based their "scare tactics" on you would find that if you are healthy (as in your diet is good and you exercise), keep hydrated, take reasonable doses (ie 30mg orally) it's no more harmful than a night of drinking and to top it off the comedown is very minor if you don't redose and you take a sensible dose. Also no hangover ;D Contrary to what you may have heard, their addictiveness is not by any means uncontrollable or ridiculously strong urge given you have some self-control and are responsible.

I switched straight to decaff, which still has a small quantity of caffeine. I ditched the coke in favour of water. I didn't really have any quitting issues, apart from lacking some physical/mental energy at work for a few days ... but I think that was down to the amount of full sugar coke I would consume at break times.

I go for periods (weeks) where I don't drink any coffee and feel fine although often I'll have at least a cup if it's cold outside or if it's a day where I have 3 classes and work at night plus papers to do after or something.

I also have an addiction to having 3-4 cups of chocolate milk per day at college but at home, I rarely have chocolate milk and instead stick with 1% or apple juice (I dislike sodas immensely).

Yay caffeine! I always thought that I enjoyed Mountain Dew for its flavor and not its especially large amount of caffeine. Who knows, though? I was raised on tea and drink it oftimes. The only good thing about the horrible South is the sweet tea. Who cares? Hmph. While it seems that many go on spurts of drinking these horrifyingly unhealthy things, I go on spurts of just water and juice. I'm in the middle, at the moment. Mountain Dew is especially great when you are late for work and don't have time to brush your teeth. It burns the bad stuff away, right?

For me: 3-4 sugars, half coffee (I vary from Mocha Nut Fudge to Hazelnut to Raspberry Truffle thanks to my campus' Green Mountain company) and lately I've been going with half chocolate milk. Normally, I'll do half 1% milk but I find that the chocolate is more delicious.

I had no idea. Thankfully, I drink lots of milk (I have been doing this for as long as I can remember) and eat dairy products. So I suppose I'm fine.

Also, my coffee is either:

A) Heated milk with instant cofee and artificial sweetener.

Or

B) 75% black coffee, 25% milk; 3 spoons of sugar.

Depends on the time I have.

Didn't know that either. Thankfully I can finish a full gallon of Milk in 2 days :) More 'cause it tastes good (Usually only 1% though, which my mother thinks I'm insane for).

Even as an infant, my mother would have to time me when breastfeeding and pull me off every 5 seconds 'cause I'd drink too fast and promptly throw it up (Still get stomach pains sometimes if I drink 2 cups back to back in around 5-7 seconds). I call it my defense mechanism, even though I enjoy what I drink. Helps to cut down the taste when I drink something awful like cough medicine.

if you can recite the symptoms of A.D.D, you can acquire a legal prescription quite easily. As far as legality, since when does that mean anything?

I've personally used and abused stimulants of all types, but have recently decided to focus more on improving my health to increase my energy. I do my best work zinging from some sort of stimulant, the focus and concentration gains are quite worth the health risks, IMHO

Um, no, you can't buy methamphetamines at the grocery store. They are illegal in the U.S. You can get Adderall (more or less dextroamphetamine) from a doctor. It works great for energy, unless you abuse it..which caused me horrible anxiety and depression. For awhile I binged on Rooster Booster drinks. I stick to caffeine and Provigil now. I throw down a couple of cups of coffee, and the world begins to make sense, at least for the next few hours. I do wonder if by doing so I actually created the problem in the first place.

Anyone remember that anti-drug ad from the 80's that had the cocaine user in it explaining his habit? "I do coke, so I can work harder, so I can earn more money, so I can do more coke....so I can work harder, so I can earn more money, so I can do more coke..."

Through hell and high water, I must have my coffee in the morning.

I can function just enough to shower, get dressed, and make it to school--but once I'm there the first thing I do is go straight into the cafeteria and pour myself a nice hot cup of coffee.

Lately though, I've been cutting way back on the caffeine due to my various (four) sleeping disorders, which caffeine obviously exacerbates.

Prior to my doctor telling me no caffeine after 12pm, I had been consuming on average, including coffee and soda, roughly 300 - 500 mg of caffeine a day.

That said, caffeine has no noticeable effect on me other than me not slumping over on my desk during classes.

I used to have caffeine daily. That stopped January 19th of this year.
since then i learnt I have a caffeine allergy. I have been caffeine free ever since & the physical and mental health benefits just keep growing. I had no idea how sick caffeine (and sugar) were making me. I did not consume copious amounts of caffeine (but a small amount is a problem if you have an allergy). If your curious about its effects on you... cut it (and sugar) out completely for two weeks. Caffeine withdrawal headaches can be brutal but, its worth finding out if caffeine is actually making your brain function impaired. I was also surprised to learn... with all the changes I have experienced that i still tested as an INTJ.

I used to be extremely fond of caffeine.
My neurologist made me give it up. Fortunately, I was hospitalised the next day (fpr an unrelated reason) so the weel on morphine/dilaudid/etc. helped get through the withdrawal. But I still miss it and after completing my restricted diet test, indulge occasionally in a good coffee. It is delicious. Best on rainy days - I'm half asleep then anyways.

Curious about the allergy and more hidden effects. I have never quit JUST coffee in the past, as it's always been with other things like smoking/eating/etc. But when I did quit those(and coffee), I got to a point a few days later where my patience grew exponentially, especially for things like small talk and caring what people had to say. Like I could breathe easier, didn't need to go go go, and and could simply just enjoy things more. Also I have this strange annoying flutter in my chest when I drink mucho caffeine that while harmless (pain wise) is still a little disconcerting. I wonder if the coffee might have a more sinister effect than the my more obvious vices. I have a next experiment now :).

Have you ever tried mate (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.(beverage))? It's like a cross between tea and coffee.

My name is Rho and I am a caffiene addict.

I mostly drink pop and energy drinks and tea. Very occasionally coffee...not much of a coffee person, don't like the tast but I need caffiene.

Caffeine... it's better than a dab of Copenhagen (or Tabasco) in the corner of your eyes

Caffeine the best substance on earth.

i admit I'm a total junkie i get 5 hours of sleep a night then wake up and take a Stacker 3-XPLC it has 200mg anhydrous caffeine plus other natural sources of caffeine 1-3 per day i just got sick of trying to drink that much and it got to be a pain so swapped to pills.

nothing gets the brain moving in the morning more than massive caffeine.

I average about 2 cupachinos per day, but on the odd occasion hit anything in the vacinity of 6. However, when things extraordinarily laid back, I tend to drink 2-4 cups of tea per day. For me though, it is more a case of having good coffee and tea, ie from the beans or loose leaf. If it is the choice between instant coffee and nothing, nothing frequently prevails. Of course tea bags can still give a good brew, so I mind the step down from loose leaf far less than the coffee equivelent.

Caffeine makes me moody, and anxious...not to mention the gawd-awful withdrawl headaches. I had to cut caffeine loose.

If I break my pattern of 1-2 cups a day I'll usually stop drinking for a while after recieving a withdrawl headache. It's like being hungover and swearing to never drink again, but then I'll have to pull an all-nighter to write an essay for school and I'll get back on it. I really love my plunger, instant coffee is a last resort.

I really love my plunger, instant coffee is a last resort.

My house mate and I have four, 6 cup, plungers and two stove top espresso thingies. He drinks twice as much coffee as I do, I swear if you cut a hole in him, you could use him as a coffee source for a couple of years.

I hate coffee. It's awful, it makes me wanna throw up,.. the smell alone is enough already to make me want to leave.

Once I had bad luck. Some coffee was left in a normal glass cup, and I thought it was the last bit of coke in my glass..... my whole body started to shiver in disgust when I swallowed that.

Depends on the mood. I usually have a cup or two while I'm at work.

I used to drink caffeine in the form of pop or coffee occasionally and moderately, but now my body rejects it so totally, I can't have even 1 mg without feeling like I drank a whole pot of coffee.

To quite8the8bell: I don't understand how you are allowed to have diet pop with caffeine, if you can't have coffee or tea. Or are you following the letter of the law, but not the spirit? I'm assuming it's the whole "your body is a temple" thing.

I get a terrible headache after a reasonable amount caffeine; I always go for decaf coffee or caffeine-free drinks.

i ingest a massive daily dose of caffeine just to stay awake. I dont sleep, so i'm always tired and i just cant function. Its a vicious circle actually.

Red Bulls, Espresso, Pepsi, Chocolate, Coffee, Caffeine Pills, Iced Tea... i am the caffeine queen.
I know about the "vicious cycle" all too well. I suffer from insomnia so I don't often get a good night's sleep. In the morning and afternoon I fill up on caffeine to function, but the caffeine stays in my body too long and I find myself unable to sleep at an appropriate hour. At the end of the day I feel physically tired but mentally I am still wide awake and suffering from an overactive, restless mind.

I always have my morning coffee. Helps me concentrate, plus I'm ridiculously tolerant of caffeine (I get a headache without it). Besides that, I might grab a soda in the mid-afternoon. Not a big fan of the flavor most "normal" energy drinks, though I do enjoy Bawls and Red Bull Cola for a quick caffeine burst.

i basically live on diet coke. i usually have several a day and definitely start my day with one. anyone that has ever met me on more than one occasion knows i have an addiction. i have become completely numb to the effects of caffeine. it doesn't do anything for in terms of waking me up or giving me a boost. i just simply love the taste!

I'm cutting back my coffee intake from 8 cups a day down to 4 cups. I can only go about 15 hours without caffeine, after that I get crippling headaches.

I love the taste and the caffeine hit but I think so much more clearly without it.

From my latest blog:

Methyltheobromine high
It hits me suddenly, without a warning, the same way it always does. It comes from everywhere and nowhere all at once, with each cell of my body crying out in pure joy. The surge of power goes up my spine and gets released through a sharp exhale. My eyes are welled with tears. No time for blinking. Or breathing. Or anything at all. Time itself ceases to exist, for I am lost inside a universe of my own. The world around me disappears, fades away, matters no more. For a few precious moments, I come unstuck from this reality, left alone with just my self and the sensation.

The sensation... Even an atheist like myself begins to wonder if maybe, just maybe, the soul - or qi - or ka - is real. Something hidden deep inside suddenly awakens and fills this mortal shell with the sense of... divinity, with a superhuman confidence, with an ephemeral confidence that I can access all of the hitherto unavailable resources this body has to offer. Solving the Fermi's Paradox, wrestling mutant alligators, outrunning a bullet - it's all possible, or so it feels. This sudden feeling of omnipotence is accompanied by the sudden surge of all five senses: when the reality returns, I can see the smallest imperfections in objects around me, hear my neighbors talking across the street, recognize every subtle flavor that I would normally overlook... This surge can last as little as a few minutes, or as long as an hour.

Then it goes away, and I am back in this world, in this body, in this time - already looking forward to the next time, wondering if and when it will occur. I look at the empty can of coke that I've been clutching in my hand, chuckle, and toss it away.

I used to drink diet coke like water, but now I've given it up. My source of caffiene is the occassional Coke, Pepsi, black tea or green tea, and sometimes chocolate (as in the food form of chocolate).

I don't get going in the morning without the mandatory cup of coffee. It is my main source of caffeine, but I also drink WAY too much diet cokes and occasionally energy drinks.

I've tried to cut back on caffeine sometimes because it can get really bad on my stomach but I just don't work properly without coffee, so that's about it. I prefer being addict, addict with stomach pain.
