View Full Version : The silly INTJ?

Are you one?
Most INTJ descriptions focus on the serious aspect of our personality, but I have to say that I can be immensely silly/weird at times, pretty often, actually. Both in actions and words, alone, with family and friends, in the house and in public (in the company of friends), I sometimes go crazy. As a matter of fact - but depending on my mood and the composition of the group - I sometimes find myself acting as the jester of the group. I don't overly care about what people think of me, and I just like to have a good time, so absurd situations and weirdness are no problem for me. One thing I like to do is answer friends' questions with animal sounds. *meow* :p
It's different when I'm alone and in public, though. Perhaps it's the leader thing acting up with friends. I want them to have a good time.
My INTJ dad (who is nearing his sixties) is similar. Last night and together with my ESTP bro and to the tunes of what said bro described as "neurofunk" we were doing silly techno dances in our pyjamas. :p
Now my mum wasn't there at that point, but generally she then gets all societally normative and rolls her eyes at us...it's a spectacle.

I'm a silly INTJ.
While I might appear intimidatingly serious most of the time,
I become irrational and childish with my friends.
I can become unbearable at times. :D
And, when strangers do try to know me...
I appear to have weird tastes in comparison... :P
I am flattered by our official psychological description. Who wouldn't be?
But, they forgot the weirdness factor.
Though, it might just be implicit in the "lacks social skills" part.

I become rather stupid if I drink, or if I'm distracted. And I hate that with all my soul. People tell me I'm more "fun" that way, but it creeps the fuck out of me.

I like to keep a calm and collected demeanor. I dont like to stay up late at night for the sole reason that i know i dont think as clearly. The idea of giving my intellect over to alcohol or drugs just seams foolish to me, but who am i to judge what is foolish or not.

i dont mind being perceived as an oddball, normal is a pretty low standard to aspire to. if i wanted to be like everyone else i am sure that i could fake it convincingly.

I'm willing to take a few Convincingly-Fake-Being-"Normal" classes from you.
Being seen as normal is a practical way to be left in peace.
I have tried, but I have failed as well. :undecided:
Then again, I wonder if I'll be able to conceal my silliness if I'm in a private environment...
It would be a great act of will for me. :p

I have. They think I'm having problems with them, because I never say anyhting to them. Normal to them seems to be talkative as well.

That will take even more willpower...
I'll just stick to being weird. :p
I'm starting to be proud of that status, anyway.
I even search for more reasons to be seen as such.
Being human is too normal, how the heck am I supposed to be different? :suspicious:

I am definitely a "silly" INTJ.
As serious as I can be and often am, I laugh more than anyone I know. I blame my imagination. My laugh is really loud too, and hate to attract attention, but sometimes, I can't help myself.
Something else I've noticed is that I disgust people easily and regularly. Nothing physical, only mental. Everything comes so easily, and I can say just about anything with a straight face.
What strikes me as being the funniest part of this whole situation is what others see as weird, I see as normal. This is especially common with strangers. I actually made some girl speechless at my favorite coffee shop not too long ago. All while acting as I do every day of my life.

But, if it's something INTJ-comical... an inaudible chuckle is my reaction. (Most of the time)
Otherwise it's an evil cackle.

Friends psycho-analyzed me. They pretty much agreed it was because I had no childhood.

Yeah, it's as if they find it threatening that someone can have that much self-confidence (so as to make fun of themselves or engage in general weirdness) and disregard for the norm...some people seem to be really creeped out. Then again, I know that the people that respond well to my weird behaviour (not like I'm doing crazy things all the time, but anyway) will be interesting in general.

It's never too late to go for silly techno dances in PJs. :p No, but seriously, you mean that your not having had a childhood crushed your silly side?

Oh crap, I'm INCREDIBLY silly/weird, especially online.
I used to be in real life too, but now I'm a lot more serious.
I can't even describe the silly stuff I've done, talking in weird voices/noises, coming up with weird sayings, doing.. just weird silly stuff in general. In public. Which was quite amusing.. when done in say, a crowded restaurant.

Silly is a great word. In my group of friends I am considered the funnies, weirdest, silliest. My humor runs toward the absurd and satirical as does my personal philosophy which is not so funny but thought through long and hard over many years. I share that existentialist absurdest philosophy with the Monty Python group who all are Oxford and Cambridge graduates. More accurately I would call myself an “evolutionary existentialist”

Amazing. I have a friend who meows. In fact, it's become just normal for my group of friends to meow to songs, or in response to each other. We also make silly sounds, noises, songs (or sing silly songs in silly sounds). Most of the INTJ friends I've had were extremely funny once I got to know them (great, because I *love* to laugh), and stopped caring if the public saw them silly or not. I tend to bring out the silly in people, which is sometimes attributed to my infectious laugh.
All of the above quoted stuff fits in various INTJ friends I've had over the last....whoa 14 years (that made me realize that I've known a particular friend for that long)!!

I've been more careful lately. I touched a sensitive subject about myself and said it with a straight face. My friends thought there was something wrong with me.
I'm silly when my friends get me hyper by being silly themselves. I used to be very silly online, but now I've grown more serious and when I talk to people I haven't met before, I usually use formal English.

Yes! I can be really silly sometimes. Some friends thinks it's weird and awkward but like it somehow anyway.
I remeber me and my colleagues thighly packed inside a minivan (all men like me). While riding we listened to the radio which hade some matchmaking programme on. Some guy had called the show and the hostess asked what he was doing. Before we heard what the guy answered I said "I have a huge boner". They all looked strangely at me for a while, but they got it that I was only mimmicking a theoretically wierd answer from the guy on the radio.
Just one random thing I've done.

I'm incredibly silly and so are the other INTJs I know in life. I have no problems acting incredibly bizarre in public or with friends, as long as I'm amusing myself. What's odd to me is that I can never tell what will make my friends laugh. I'll just be going along being my weird self and suddenly everyone is cracking up. I just hope they're laughing with me most of the time :)

I'm silly and non-serious to a fault. Especially online. And with my kids, I frequently make up on-the-fly song parodies. Usually about poop. Because poop humor is funny.
rwyatt365

I am seriously non-serious. I think that we (INTJs - in particular, and most people in general) take ourselves way too seriously. When the circumstance requires it, I will be as down-to-business and humorless as the next person but I don't see that the circumstance always requires it.
Now, that's not to say that I walk around with a foolish grin on my face all the time, or that I have a variety of clown suits in my closet (as I do neither). However, my mind is constantly awash with notions of the absurdity of life. And I do have the tendency of making obscure (and to me, funny) remarks quite often.

Perhaps this is an INTJ thing. Most of the INTJs I have known seem to have a similar view. I can't recall them all, but have heard many song parodies about poop from various friends. Crazy friends....I love it.

They call me the masked comedian. That's because I can create humour when others are not expecting it and remaining poker-faced. Not everybody understands my humour and not everybody within a minute of my joke. At times I just play with words, in my native language.
ScurvyRose
07-25-2008, 05:53 AM
At work I have no humor at all, but with my friends, especially my sisters and kids, I let go once in a while.
Recently we started random dancing sessions, someone yells it out and everyone has to dance. (this is usually at home only!)
My humor as seen by my friends is twisted and either dead on or completely blows by them. As INTJ we really don't care what other people think of us, we don't decide anything based on others opinions, it's more of this is me, take it or leave it- it doesn't matter. Also apparently my laugh is a bit evil.

I tend to be the opposite ... I'm sillier at work than at home. I mean, I'm usually silly anywhere I go, but I find it makes life easier, and your support staff enjoys working with you more, if you let loose and indulge your slightly crazy side at work.
Why, just yesterday, I was a ninja. You should have seen the look on our IT guy's face when I pretended to sidekick him (from a very safe distance). I also like to spin around and say "Hyaaah!" with ninja-style hand motions.
Cracks 'em up, every time. No matter how often I do it, they just don't seem to expect it from me.

Sure- I have room to put up with my friends conundrums and amusing attitudes. In fact it doesn't bother me in the least- I find it very amusing. Although I am serious in tone and in attitude, eventually you will become so stuck up that SOMETHING stupid will make you break in laughter. Life is serious business, but it is also amusing fun.

I have a hard time being a serious person. There are just so many potentially silly/stupid things out there that it is normally what comes first to mind in conversations. While I usually keep those coments to myself around people I don't know well, my friends co-workers, and family know not to take too much of what I say seriously.

Yeah, if I'm around friends I'm pretty quirky and funny, trying to make jokes. I can't help it really. So I do indeed have my "silly side". Especially online and when I was a little younger (17) I french kissed a wall. >_> I'm easily entertained, but I can be serious. I think that is one of our traits actually. To loosen up in a familiar setting.

Oh man, I'm incredibly silly. With friends and people I have just met, I usually have a HUGE urge to crack people up. Yet, this is only after midnight, or later hours. Or everyday, depends on my mood. If the opportunity comes up, I'll lose myself, haha.
Some people say I'm on crack by seeing the type of things I say or do. I just simply reply that I'm high on life. :D

Yeah, I like making weird noises and impersonating funny voices and stuff. I mainly do it alone, but I'll also do it around friend who "get" me.
Also, I can't stand people who take themselves too seriously. I take great pleasure in making them feel awkward by acting stupid around them (I'm even better at it when I'm drunk).

Yes very true.. My pet hate is if I get involved in a relationship with another person, I often analyze their moods so much that they prefer me to be stupid and drunk, which does draw out the chaos.
