Considering Doing a liberal arts degree

Does anybody know much about them? All i know is that you can combine the units you want into getting yourself a piece of paper that says you have a bachelors. It'd make an excellent base for the things I want to study.

I'm not sure, but I think that would be involving politics needlessly in education (how smart are employers, are they liberal or otherwise?). although I'm not sure how this Liberal Arts category came about, people are probably going to think that someone who has a degree in liberal arts a liberal with an "enlightened liberal" complex (politically).

Of course I could be wrong, that's just the way it looks to me.

Yeah, getting a degree in order to get a job is something that I've always scorned. Which is why I have put it off as long as I have. My aim for this degree is to learn the subjects I am interested in without needing to do units I'd dislike. Another aim is that the job I'd like to take on requires a bachelors in something, they are not picky what it is in.

Basically a win-win for me, study the things I want, get the job I want. I do not think that anyone will believe That the founder of the Australian Conservative Party is an "enlightened liberal"


I guess what I am asking is: What knowledge or experience do you guys have with these degrees?

I had a friend who was considering getting a Liberal Arts degree... I know people do it... I'm just not sure what it means in terms of job prospects vs. getting a specialized degree.

Nice find, Zilal - I couldn't agree more with this article. If you are sure of your abilities and skills, getting a liberal arts degree is definitely worth the little risk - a specialized degree is much safer, but you are much more limited.

A personal example - I am currently finishing my B.A. in Politics & International Relations. After my studies, I will be able to fully use four languages and have a basic understanding of two more, will have a thorough knowledge of national and international law, basics in micro-, macro- and international economy, knowledge of public relations techniques, negotiation and analytical skills et cetera. Now, doesn't these give a vast array of possibilities?..
