View Full Version : New Years Eve...the ultimate Sensor-Feeler holiday?

I've come to the conclusion that New Years Eve is for Sensor-Feelers. In fact, I don't even see a thread on this forum about New Years Eve.

I personally can't stand it. It's an arbitrary day meant to signify "A NEW BEGINNING ZOMG!", which is really just another excuse to get hammered and look at shiny lights and fireworks, and hug and kiss strangers. ETo view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. And to sit there and go "man I'm a year older and I haven't done much with my life this year...I need a resolution!" blah blah blah.

I'd rather lay in bed and watch a good movie.

This thought occured to me when my guardian SJ girlfriend reminded me we were going over to her aunts house on New Years day to "get together". WTF!? I never got together with family on New Years Day! This is preposterous! I think her family is like >80% Sensor-Feelers.

(Begin Rant)

We were supposed to meet over there on December 8th for her mom's sister's husband's (yes, her non-blood uncle) brother coming into town to "do Christmas early". WTF!? I told her no, as we have no real relation to that dude.

Then on Christmas day again...fine. No problem there.

Then 3 days later we were supposed to go there to "celebrate" her cousin's baby's first birthday....on a Friday night. WHY !? First birthday!? We didn't even have a gift for her so why go? I took my gf to see Legend instead. (She's a huge movie buff so it was the only way I could talk her out of it lol).

Then again on Jan. 1. So her family wanted us to come by 4 times in a three-week span.

Meanwhile I see a cousin once every 5 years or so, as they live in different states.

So much meeting....and hugging....and eating...the same....stuff...over...and..over...again... I really was pretty pissed off at the absurdity of having to go there New Years day.

(End Rant)

So, am I wrong or right? Is New Years Eve the S-F's wet dream!? I'm not trying to make fun of SF's, I just think the "holiday" is so much more meaningless to an NT rational.

Every day is one year from another day.
I get tired of celebrating things that are not unusual.

I don't know who the holiday is good for, but I can sympathize with your feelings about it.

I just figure, what, with all the bright lights, loud noises, or both (fireworks), it appeals to the Sensors.

And all the hugging and smiling and laughing and crying appeals to the Feelers. Gross...just typing that makes me want to vurp.

I agree wholeheartedly. I don't understand why people celebrate it in the first place, and I especially can't stomach the thought of spending so much time with so many people, most of whom I know nothing about and care for even less with a backdrop of stupidly loud noise and alcohol to complete the picture. Whoopee. Fabulous, I don't think.

Hmm, New Years for me is more like Thanksgiving. Cooking with family, delicious food, no partying. This year I was going to go to a party, though. A party hosted by an INTJ. :P

Heh, that must have been a very nice party, OneBadMother :)

And I completely agree with the others. People crying and hugging each other in streets, a lot of noise and drunken wanderers... Ugh. So E-S-F-ish. Not that it's bad, but I don't know how much alcohol I would have to consume to begin enjoying it.

On New Year's Eve AND Jan 1st, I just sat at home and watched Lions for Sheeps. Just like any other day.

When I was younger I did all the New Year's Eve things. From Times Square to a massive underground rave (anyone remember those?) to various private parties, clubs, etc. But I never enjoyed them. Now I'd rather stay home. Or just go out with a date for a show or something interesting.

I wouldn't even qualify it as "an ESF thing". I think calling it "SF" is good enough.

There is enough "exciting" Sensor-Feeler crap to even get the I's out of the house, most definitely.

"It is a day meant to signify a NEW BEGINNING"
"I need to make a New Year's Resolution"

aaaarrrrggghhhh. WTF is with the New Year's Resolution's crap anyway? As an NT, why the hell do you have to wait until Dec 31 to set goals? You can set "goals" any time you want.

I agree, New Year's Eve parties are SF cesspools. Everthing from the hugging and kissing to the colorful fireworks to the "it's a new beginning-make a resolution" are magnets for SFs. That's why I NEED vodka whenever I'm surronded by SFJs.

Not a fan, prefer a quiet evening with close friends, drinks, food and quality discussion - luckily I have a number of friends who prefer that too.

Never enjoyed the public parties I went to when I was younger, usually wondered what the big deal was - I also have the issue of no matter how much I drink I always stay in control so when my friends would get stupid and huggie I'd wanna get the hell outta there. I'd stay though, try and fit in and enjoy it as much as I could. Bla, not any more!

Actually I had the most awesome NYE a couple of years ago, me and a group of close friends hired a small island (really, really small), we went out there played a murder mystery, drank, played music and talked – no one else was around for miles! If was perfect.

I'd say that Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, and Father's Day are much less justified holidays, but that's just me. :P At least New Years wasn't invented by Hallmark.

There are many illogical things in this world. That's why the world is exciting.

I hate New Years Eve, everyone has this need to party and hug and kiss, I prefer to lock my door and read a book. Definitely an SF holiday.

Out of curiosity, what brought this up in the middle of May?
lol

Sounds like you have some awesome friends. I can only think of one or two people I hang out with who would be interested in playing out a murder mystery. The rest would come, drink all the alcohol, and mess things up with their stupidity...

I don't enjoy any big celebration: New Years, weddings, birthdays...whatever.

The only holiday I really enjoy is Thanksgiving since it involves a much needed rest from work/school, great food, football, and cooler weather (important here in Texas). July 4th is alright too as far as fireworks go (especially out on a lake in the country where I often go), but the weather sucks and I'm not a huge fireworks fan.

yeah, i don't mind having a bonfire and tailgate party just for fun

plus the drinkin', music, and just hangin' out

but this thread actually has me thinking about society in general, and what i came up with yesterday was that this world today has become an "S" type society

just look at america's top model (for the pleasure of sight), american idol (for the pleasure of hearing)... the list goes on...

it has become a sensualist society we live in

not saying it is a bad thing, but it seems like everyone wants to be a critic

i've tried to sing in my office and this chick (i believe to be an INTP/J, but never took the test) said, "Hmmm, you need to get it together. if i was you, i'd take singin' classes."

and i'm like, "everyone wants to be a critic." when in fact, i was like, "everyone wants to be an "S" type." (i was literally thinking this in my head)

anyways, that's my 3 cents...

Doesn't that imply that it hasn't always been that way?

These holidays are useful to me: People hire my band and then I can do things like pay rent.

Can't think of too many other reasons..

I like new years eve.
In down under land we have lots of music festivals in various parts of the country around this time (It being summer here helps alot). Ive gone to several different ones and had a great time.
