I have recently been listening to some rock versions of Nintendo 8-bit music from games such as Castlevania, Contra, Mario and Zelda. I must say some of them sound quite good. My personal favorite is the winner from this contest:

The artist "goat" playing "Creeping Dusk", a 17 minute mix of several Castelvania melodies. The arrangement and solos are very nice.

this website is actually very cool. i have a friend who is a jazz pianist and i've spent so many drunken nights listening to him rock out the ZELDA and Mario themes on his keyboard that this site is right up my alley. I"ll pass it along to him :)

Ever heard of a band called "The Advantage?" I think they put out a whole cd of video game covers. I've heard their Zelda. It's worth a listen.
