Have any of you felt moments of intense inspiration either by a speech, music, art or whatever? I mean, not just something that was short-lived, but something that seemed to stick by you, and perhaps even changed you...
Last winter, in one of my many late night ramblings. I was browsing the Internet for new cool gadgets on the Internet. Somehow I ended up looking at the IPhone, and started looking for demonstration videos on YouTube...
After watching a few, I became quite impressed by 'Steve Jobs', the CEO of Apple (He's an ENTJ btw.).
I eventually ended up watching a Stanford Commencement Speech from 2005.
I'll share it with you. It's fourteen minutes and contains three stories. But this little snippet of time changed me in a small way, and I think it's brilliant.
So if you have the time - enjoy :)

How to be more creative/ inspired:
1. Ignore everybody.
2. The idea doesn't have to be big. It just has to change the world.
3. Put the hours in.
4. If your biz plan depends on you suddenly being “discovered” by some big shot, your plan will probably fail.
5. You are responsible for your own experience.
6. Everyone is born creative; everyone is given a box of crayons in kindergarten.
7. Keep your day job.
8. Companies that squelch creativity can no longer compete with companies that champion creativity.
9. Everybody has their own private Mount Everest they were put on this earth to climb.
10. The more talented somebody is, the less they need the props.
11. Don't try to stand out from the crowd; avoid crowds altogether.
12. If you accept the pain, it cannot hurt you.
13. Never compare your inside with somebody else's outside.
14. Dying young is overrated.
15. The most important thing a creative person can learn professionally is where to draw the red line that separates what you are willing to do, and what you are not.
16. The world is changing.
17. Merit can be bought. Passion can't.
18. Avoid the Watercooler Gang.
19. Sing in your own voice.
20. The choice of media is irrelevant.
21. Selling out is harder than it looks.
22. Nobody cares. Do it for yourself.
23. Worrying about “Commercial vs. Artistic” is a complete waste of time.
24. Dont worry about finding inspiration. It comes eventually.
25. You have to find your own schtick.
26. Write from the heart.
27. The best way to get approval is not to need it.
28. Power is never given. Power is taken.
29. Whatever choice you make, The Devil gets his due eventually.
30. The hardest part of being creative is getting used to it.
31. Remain frugal.

Of course I have such experiences. It's just that I have so many of them I can't even remember them all (or any of them, now that I think about it. I think it's time to start questioning the efficiency of the part of my brain that controls memories). Sometimes, I take a walk in a calm environment and listen to some soothing tracks and I gain some insight. I don't know how, but I just work that way :)

Never by Steve Jobs, but I found Autechre really inspring. The way they make music has led me to rethink my own music cognition and the definition of music as well. Their album "Confield" is probably one of my favorite albums, but I have warn you: Autechre's style of music is incredibly sterile, inhuman, and mathematical sounding. You don't just "get" them overnight. But for fun, look up user reviews of them at Amazon.com (especially Confield). The ways people try to describe them are almost like works of art.

Well. Techno has never really been my thing. I prefer rock and classical music. I also love musicals like: Phantom of the opera, Les Miserables, Jesus Christ Superstar, West Side Story, and so on...
I find music that I like very inspiring. Especially when I'm working on my writings. It's like it brings a whole other dimension to the world I'm trying to create.
Here's a list of some music I've been inspired by.
Cat Stevens - Father and Son (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)
Il Divo and Celine Dion - I Believe in You (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)
Anthony Warlow - This Is The Moment (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)

I wouldn't really even consider it techno. Too many people throw that term around. Techno is rooted in dance music. Autechre is IDM and well, very hard to explain. But even then, we have completely different tastes. I don't really like musicals, but I do like conceptual music. You can check out my last.fm profile for other things I listen to: To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
Ture metal inspires me majorly. It's a big inspiration for my art and stories. I have to have music on when I draw. Andean music is the close second. I prefer this without lyrics since the music brings out so much vivid imagry for me. I love it.

Some inspirational speaker on PBS (not sure of her name) advocates that each person do what they love, whether you can make a living at it or not. Her theory is that tapping into your strengths and talents and pursuing your interests is not only your calling, but of great service to the world. I must admit that I haven't been able to get that out of my head for years. It was simple, but so meaningful. Studying my own personality and apptitude has been a great eye-opening experience for me as well.

Badmojo, I am inspired. I really needed that right now.
"Stay hungry and stay foolish".

I've felt like this a lot recently, and will probably be living in a box as a result.
But it'll be my box, so I'll be happy.
