View Full Version : How do you Pronounce the Moniker of the Poster Above You?

INTJoe
04-22-2009, 12:12 AM
OK, so I've noticed there are some interesting monikers on this site. I also notice I come up with my own pronunciations for these names and yet have no idea if that is how they are intended to be said... some examples would be:

Azelismia = "azz-el-iz-MEE-uh"
Maayan = "mah EYE-in"
BlackOP = "black-o-PEE"

Many names I know I am saying wrong but for whatever reason, that is how I read (present-tense) them, and so they stick.

I can't think of others right now but I know there are more. Anyway this game might be really stupid but if you respond, you are supposed to type how you say/pronounce, or what you call, the poster who responds before you.

Mine should be easy to start. ;)

zibber
04-22-2009, 05:42 AM
Hah, neat idea.

Here's my pronunciation of the examples:

Azelismia = azelsmilia (azzulsmeeleeya). No, I don't get it either. Must've misread the name the first couple of times I saw it, since this has stuck.
Maayan = mah-yun
BlackOP = black op aka Clint Eastwood

You? Eye En Tee Joe, duh.

Rudy

I agree with INTJoe for azelismia, and zibber for the other two.

Should I read something into the hissiness you guys are putting into my name?
It sounds like you're speaking through clenched teeth about your nemesisss.

I say rara avis with round vowels; a = ah. For whatever that's worth.
BlackOp says "RARE-ah AY-viss".

I can't really quantify Latin speech very well in English, but:
RAH (but elongated; has very subtle elements of the long English "a" while still mostly sounding like "ah")-ruh (not quite "uh" though; a bit closer to "ah") AH-vis (with the "i" being just faintly reminiscent of a long English "e").
Technically avis should classically be:
AH-wis
and technically both those r's should be lightly trilled, but I absolutely loathe both of those things and refuse to accept them.
