View Full Version : Attention Whoring

I think there were several posts by female members that implied that people don't take them seriously because of their physical appearance. An unfortunate product of the Western male-dominated society model.
I hate that! It is so sexist! And, it does adversely affect me, because if someone is paying attention to someone else, that's less attention they have to spend on me and less attention I have to spend on making them spend less attention on me!
Sorry, that was a bit confusing, huh. :embarassed:

I'm always confused. Perhaps thats why I understand myself.
Basically, I was saying that because some people don't take woman seriously, that draws attention away from them which makes it more likely to fall on me.

SO! You admit it! You're an attention whore! ;D

What does attention whore mean?
If you weren't being sarcastic, then:
Label given to any person who craves attention to such an extent that they will do anything to receive it. The type of attention (negative or positive) does not matter.

It means that the "attention whore" is hooked on getting attention, doing whatever it takes to get that attention. In effect, putting one's self "on display" (i.e. the "whore" reference) to get attention.
I've heard the terms "attention whore" and "camera whore" used to the same effect.

In that case, you misunderstood me. I am a man, meaning that if people are paying less attention to woman because they are woman, then it is that much more likely that they will pay attention to me which I do not like.
Hah! Try to find a label for that
Please don't! :scared:

...Ummm...an...
- anti-attention non-whore?
- background-loving INTJ
- antidisestablishmentarianism-ist (I have no idea what that word means, but it sounds good, and it's long!)

That's bad.

For some reason while I was away from the computer this morning, the word antidisestablishmentarianism jumped into my mind. It was a tangent from my thoughts on the movie 'Stranger than Fiction'. ( I also don't know why I was thinking about the movie, I was working at the time and haven't even seen or talked about the movie in months). [/ramble]

[faux angry rant]What's bad? That I'm always confused, that I understand myself, that I understand myself becuase I'm always confused, that attention is drawn away from woman because of sexism, that attention is more likely to fall on me, that attentiong is more likely to fall on me because attention is drawn away from woman because of sexism, all and/or none of the above, and/or a combanation of the above? Come on, give me something to work with here![/faux angry rant]
I've got more :grin; eyebrows shoot up then fall back down immediately:

Honestly,
I don't get the point you are trying to make.
I don't even understand your stream of thought.

So, is it even possible for an INTJ to be an "attention whore"?

Niffer: the whole point of my post was that I was naming a ton of combinations of what you could be talking about when you said "That's bad". Though, I really was asking what you were talking about specifically, when you said "That's bad".

What were your refering to when you said 'That's bad.'?

I also do not like other people's attention on me, so I am saying it is bad for their attention to rest on you.
I guess it is also bad that people don't take women seriously, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't what I was referring to when I posted that.

Ah, thank you.
Wny do you not like others attention on you? For me, it makes me feel uncomfortable and means that I can't do much in secret.

an attention whore by definition has to be an extrovert.

*sigh* Yeah, I guess. I was looking for the "exception to every rule" here.

I prefer to be left alone. There are two things in life I enjoy most: my solitude and my comfort. I get anxiety ridden when others are around, especially when they talk to me or do other things to interfere with me. I wouldn't say I'm particularly secretive, but I'm definitely not one that shares my thoughts with others readily.

I was about to post "Yes, me! I'm an unwilling attention whore!", but then I realised the actual point of this.
You are what I like to call "A convenient feminist", which means you're taking up feminism causes (pay more attention to women!) for your own personal convenience.
If there's something I'm sure of, is that you can put a label on anything, as long as language is on your side.
