View Full Version : Looking for a kind of intro to computers, any advice?

Does anyone know of a website, book, or anything that would serve as an introduction to linux for those only familiar with windows? I'm interested in learning more about computers in general (programming, software, hardware, etc.) and any info. or simple point in the right direction would be appreciated.

There are some smaller versions of Linux which you can use without installing to a hard drive. They boot from a CD-R that you burn. Some of them, provided your PC hardware was manufactured within the last few years, can also be installed and booted from a USB flash drive.

I've used all three of these in the past, either booting from a burned CD-R, or in the case of puppy, from a USB flash drive.

Puppy also has a version which will run in a window on the Windows OS, but when I tried it, the hardware I was using at the time was really too slow. And it is rather badly outdated now, having been created in 2007. I was, however able to successfully browse with Firefox. Here is the download link for it:
