When the Rubik Cube craze hit in the early 80's there were a number of similar toys that jumped on the bandwagon. Some of them weren't a puzzle exactly, they were more of a fiddle toy that you made shapes with.
I had this toy that I think a schoolmate nicked and I don't think I ever knew what it was called, which is a nuisance because without the exact name I can't find a picture.
It consisted of two halves which came right apart, but when laid one inside the other it looked like eight conjoined red and white blocks. This object could be folded over lengthways or widthways, and you could keep folding it each way alternately, a bit like a magic wallet. If you took the two halves apart and folded them over, you could create multicoloured star shapes.
I've tried hunting online for various Rubik-type toys but none of the pictures I found resemble this thing I had. Any ideas?
