View Full Version : Anyone like to dance by themselves?

I find it entertaining dancing to music by myself and watching myself in the mirror. Is this strange behaviour? I don't really get the singing thing, which is why I don't get karaoke. Doesn't it feel better to move to music rather than singing it? My dance moves are improvised ones, borrowing from the myriad of dance styles out there that I have seen eg. arabian, indian, south/east-asian, european folk and modern; but mostly it's just me moving my body and limbs in whichever way feels and looks good, in-sync with the music. Never had any lessons, so I may look extremely strange but it sure does feel good. Anyone else do this?

Yes, many times when I'm at home by myself you'll catch me blating music and dancing around like an idiot. My moves always match the lyrics, though. Every time a song I dance to at home comes on at a club, you can bet I'm gonna make a dick of myself for a laugh.
I sing a lot of the songs too, because I took vocal lessons and was in the church choir when I was younger, and sometimes I still am. Not that the music I listen and dance to is anything the choir would sing.

I do this every once in a while and yes it would be consider strange to the ordinary public, but that's not what this place is now is it.
Constantly. I love dancing and singing, though only the latter do I enjoy doing in front of others. Though, this is mainly because I am a competent singer and not a competent dancer.
Moving to a rhythm is very satisfying at a emotional level; I cannot explain why.

I wear headphones nearly all the time, so I don't get many occasions to dance, but I love to do it when I can. I also sing, but only when I'm absolutely sure no one can hear me. I used to sing professionally, but that was a long time ago.

I must admit, this is one of my dirty little secrets. Although I do move my limbs whichever way feels good, I doubt it looks good or is in time with the music. But it feels fabulous. And my dog seems to enjoy watching my convulsions...er...dancing.
I tend to combine my "dancing" with "singing." Sometimes I pretend I'm the artist, and try to mimic what I think they might do on stage.

Yeah, I dance every day in this manner. It basically accelerates my fantasy life to such vividness I feel guilty that I'm not recording it by image/art making... in that way I regard my dancing fits as undisciplined movement in comparison to channelling my energies into the illustration work I'd rather be doing.

Yes, I love it. I don't as much anymore because I'm so out of shape and I'm too cheap to by myself some new music. Kinda sad...

I used to dance rather than walk accross the room most the time. Many times- this has happened about twice since december- I have been out with friends and have such a great time dancing that I stay after they leave. Am I on my own on this one?

Hehe, I used to do this. Or rather, just stick it out until the very end of the night, regardless of who leaves. It's usually quite an effort to get out into town, so I don't like to cut it short.
Anyway, regards dancing, I don't tend to do that much. But I can't help doing a lot of pretend drumming and repetitive movements when no ones around. And when I play guitar hero on my own, I might break out all the actions of the guitarists I'm mimicking. But other than that, not much of a dancer.

Yeah I'm always tapping along to music. I love music love Dj'ing and love dancing. Dancings probably when I am my most extroverted, always used to be up on the podiums and when your really going for it and a crowd forms and starts egging you on- great feeling!

I can't say I do, but I do move around with weapons and music...not really dancing.. but I do go with the flow sometimes.

I don't dance in front of mirrors, but if I'm at home doing any kind of housework I'll grab the mp3 player and dance around while doing chores. :)

Yes! All the time! Anytime I have either the house to myself (at home), or my dorm room (at school), I turn up the music and let loose! I only sing when there's absolutely no one else around, because then I can be as ridiculous as I like. It's a great way to release a lot of tension. It always puts me in a great mood, too. There's nothing worse than an unexpected interruption, though.

Starting at age 5, I took ballet.
My mom's quote from then, "she doesn't know how to walk."
aka:I danced everywhere.
Apparently, when I'm tired, I start up dancing again.

Yes! I love dancing. I can dance for hours all by myself, it just feels so good.
And I do it much the same way, being influenced by different styles of dance but mostly doing whatever feels best.

That's exactly what i do - i thought it would be wierd for and INTJ. It's odd how i have to look at myself in the mirror - maybe my kinesthetic sense is so minimal that i even have to experience kinesthetic activities visually ... just a guess. That was why i was so crap at dance even when i made it (contemporary) my major hobby for five years. I still managed to learn movement technique that helps me do other things now.
I also like singing, though - i used to sing along with my opera singer aunt in front of the relatives when i was two.

I love dancing by myself. I still dance alone in my room; although, I get embarrassed if someone walks in on me when I doing that.

I love to sing and dance to myself, but I'm not competent in either so I don't do it in public. Since I live in a dorm, I pop in my iPod and naked dance around my room once I'm done with my shower (which is in my room as well, luckily). Sometimes I get a bit too into it and realize that I'm jumping on the bed and leaping across the room which certainly the entire hall can hear.
Since I've been in college/uni, I've had much less of an opportunity to sing. I have a horrible singing voice but LOVE to do it, so I always look forward to going home because I don't care if my parents or brother hear me singing in the shower. Not as appropriate in a shared dorm bathroom.
I do admit that I'll rap along with my iPod even in the dorms... that I can handle well. :P

Yes, and I look so ridiculous when I do...but who cares! Just make sure your blinds/curtains are closed.
