Cutler is still a bit overrated. Yes, he made the pro bowl but we all know that's just a popularity contest. He was, at most, the 6th best quarterback in the AFC last year behind Cassel, Pennington, Manning, Rivers and Roethlisberger and if he could ever stay healthy I'd put Shaub ahead of Cutler too. Bottom line is that Cutler turned the ball over a lot and has never come through in clutch situation (for example, last season's final game against the Chargers...)

The Bears gave up a lot of picks to get him and even if Hester develops into a decent wide receiver they still need to get a number 1 guy.

That can be misleading. They have 7 games next year against playoff teams not to mention the 49ers looked much better after Singletary took over coaching and the Bengals will have Carson Palmer back. Schedule strength is calculated based on opponents winning percentage from the previous year so of course it's going to be artificially deflated since they play the 0-16 Lions twice.

I grew up a Chiefs fan....so this is a win/win for me. I live in Chicago and they have never had a QB worth a shit...so painfully boring to watch. Pioli has a charmed way about him....getting Cassel and in doing so removing Cutler from the AFCW. Keeping him from the Vikings and Lions was big too....

There is a ridiculously long thread on another forum I read about this. 65% think the Bears got the better end of the deal. Some say getting a top 6-ish QB who is 26 years old is worth trading all 7 picks away in one year. I disagree, due to variance.

Even though a young good QB is absurdly valuable, he is still just 1 person who can get injured or forget how to play the position. There is far less risk in 7 different humans.

I'm also worried about the fact that Cutler will play 9 games a year in cold, windy weather. (8 home games + 1 in Green Bay). While Denver gets cold, I don't think it's anything like the upper Midwest combo of coldness + windiness. Some say his strong arm is enough to cut through the wind. We'll see.

its a mile high, so i think the winds might be comparable?

i think it gets fairly cold in denver.

but i agree with you, giving up so many picks is pretty ridiculous. but the bears have been troubled with a leader for the team. it might be a good change and give the whole team a morale boost. sort of like with what happened to the dolphins & pennington last year.

I agree. The guy has a strong arm but beyond that I just don't see what the big deal is.

Cutler also had a ridiculously good LT last year in Ryan Clady.

Supposedly he drinks and parties a lot with Type 1 diabetes, which may hamper his career. Although I think Brett Michels did this while fronting Poison so maybe it won't.

As a former defensive tackle, I'm programmed to hate all offensive linemen and to view quarterbacks as pretty boys who should be sacked on every play. Clady's a great young LT, though, and that makes a big difference in how good a QB seems to be. Cutler may not look so good when he has half a second less protection on his blind side.

I do like Cutler a lot and wish the Vikes woulda got him. They did pay a high price to get him but if I were the Vikes GM I woulda done the same deal throwing in TJax instead of Orton, and hopefully coulda thrown in Childress in the deal for a pack of 6 single ply toliet rolls. To get a potential franchise QB the price was worth it in my mind. Jay wont put up numbers in the windy city so he goes way down the rankings in fantasy, outside the top 10.
