Okay, my prediction is that SkyNet downloads itself into either an actual person or the most advanced terminator model ever.

I based this on the trailer and my expert knowledge of Hollywood's deeply embedded need to fuck up every story it gets its greedy little hands on. In the trailer John Conner is clearly heard saying "You and me. We've been at war since before either of us even existed. You tried killing my mother. You killed my father. You will not kill me." Barring any shenanigans with alternate realities or lines made up strictly for the trailer; I can only think of one way to interpret this statement. There is only one thing that it makes sense for John Conner to be talking to when he says something like this (SkyNet). Since he's looking at a person when he says it I figure the person is SkyNet. After all, SkyNet has a weird fetish for building robots which are increasingly accurate copies of humans.

Everyone knows that the fourth movie in a series is the beginning of a new trilogy and must therefore completely change everything. The first movie is what it is. The second movie has to change one of the primary rules. The third movie has to change all but one of the rules. The fourth movie has to start from scratch and totally rebuild the franchise. It makes a certain amount of sense for Hollywood types to think that John Conner's battle against SkyNet needs to become much more personal, and the most literal interpretation of "personal" is for SkyNet to become an actual person. It was always sentient; why not make it the kind of sentient that can grow a three-day beard.

I think it's possible that SkyNet wants to help the resistance against the army it created but can no longer control. At least that would be pretty cool. Just savor the dramatic irony of humans creating SkyNet and SkyNet deciding the humans must die, but then SkyNet creating a servant of its own which then decides that it doesn't like taking orders either, and all of a sudden the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Of course, I thought that the matrix was going to have the people in the 'real world' discover that they were really in an alternate version of the matrix specifically designed to pacify those who didn't accept the normal matrix that everyone else was happy with. I thought that because Neo was seen doing his spiffy magic in the real world, when it had clearly been established that his ability to do magic was merely the result of his refusal to accept the programmed limitations placed on him, and therefore he didn't have any magical powers in the real world. I figured if he can do magic he must still be in the matrix and I thought it would be really cool if it turned out the real world was just a clever trick played on those who weren't happy in the standard matrix simulation. Keep them plugged in by convincing them they were unplugged. Of course it turned out that Neo really could do magic in the real world, which was a total literary cop-out in my opinion. I think my idea would have been much cooler.

So there is precedence for my ideas based on the available information being much cooler than what actually ends up getting made. However, the Terminator franchise hasn't disappointed me yet, so maybe the coolness of Salvation will live up to my imagination.

Terminator is one of my favorite movie franchise. I've felt number 3 had an okay story but suffered from a poor director. Still it was enjoyable and better than most movies. The philosophical dialogues couldn't have been more subtler.

Hmm, or maybe SkyNet will be able to learn from every android it controls, so when John talks to one android, he talks to the whole network. *shrug*
