It's pretty neat software. there is a lot of development going into it. It's a pretty good sized project, so naturally, there are a lot of bugs in it.

I led an Asterisk based project a while ago, but would not do it again. The amount of time we spent customizing and tweaking the config was humongous- it works very well for basic stuff, but if you have some kind of non-standard scenario, go with a commercial alternative that has a manufacturer-developed GUI. However, in the meanwhile there are many commercially customized Asterisk boxes out there, so it might be worth a try now...
I've heard great things about Swyx, right now we're using CyTel. Again, depends on your requirements, expertise and time you are willing to spend configuring it.

I do tear two tech support and basic development for an asterisk based product. The company has really come a long way in the last couple of years. Using a software based pbx is an awesome idea. There are just so many bugs in the software.
