Not especially durable, and I'm not hard on a phone. I had my previous phone for 3 years with no trouble - this one got its display jacked up after a few months, & I had to trade in for a new one under warranty.
My boss bought it as a gift for me, though, w/ bluetooth and an extra music card, so I'm not actually complaining; it's freaking awesome for a free phone. :)

I have a G'Zone Boulder. Silly name, but it's a nifty little phone. It supposedly comes with all manner of "military specification" ruggedness factors. I've little doubt that there's some amount of BS in there, but it's a rugged little bugger regardless.
It's no iPhone, and it's got 'standard' buttons so text messaging is a bit cumbersome, but... it does everything I believe a cellphone should, so I won't complain!
Here it is. (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)

I had a basic Sony/Ericcson phone, then for some reason switched to a fancy pants PDA, then got really annoyed with that after a month or two and switched back to the old one. After six years, the old phone died last week and I was forced to go back to the PDA.

I wouldn't go so far to say I love it, considering its lack of such simple features as a sideways keyboard for writing e-mails. I mean, it's not like I actually use a phone for making phone calls.

Seriously, dude, I know what you mean. I can step out of my infatution with my brilliant little device long enough to bemoan the fact that sending a pic to another cell phone is harder than it used to be back in the day when I had my LG CU 500, and I also hate the fact that when my sister sends me multimedia text messages and jokes I have to log into AT&T online just to view the darned thing...
But the fact that I can listen to music, make phone calls, surf the web, check my work email anywhere and anytime and basically rule the world from the palm of my hand more than makes up for it.:devilish:

I used to have a Nokia something that folded out to be a keyboard. And it really came down to the fact that once you go keyboard, you don't go back. A lot of the time I just use the touch screen keyboard now because I'm lazy, but having the keyboard does have it's advantage.

iPhone 3G here and so looking forward to that. Yes, they're late with some key features that should've been there in the first place but the excellent UI and mutli-touch along with the latest updates make up for it.
Just a few months more and maybe I'll get rid of the jailbreaking business. It's a sad truth but only the official firmware runs smoothly.
Then again, I won't be able to make it look like this (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) with iPhone 3.0.

Nokia 6300 because it was free. I find it pretty handy to finally have a camera on my phone and the fact that I can have music ringtones and wallpapers... I was in the dark ages for a long time.
I know these new phones are a lot flimsier and I still have my old one on standby for when that happens. My old phone was a Nokia 2300 with all the girlie colours below. I miss composing my own ringtones :(

Black 16GB iPhone 3G that I bought a couple weeks after they came out. Currently sporting an anti-glare (no fingerprint issues) screen protector and a matte black (rubbery, but hard) incase brand slider case. Both were installed by Dave, the very friendly and helpful Apple Store employee. Every INTJ with a credit/debit card and iTunes account should buy something at an Apple Store at least once. The integration and efficiency is impressive - he scans the items, slides my card, asks me if the email address they have is correct (linked by my card number), then my receipt arrives by email, which is pushed to my phone about 10 or 15 seconds later when I get a new mail ding (no paper). Priceless.

Still got the 'NOKIA', heavy & clumbersome & having a tendency to 'call' whenever
i move ...as the key pad gets pressed inadvertently by the fabric of my pants or shirt pocket....
hey dufus, get a flip phone, & that problem will evaporate--- or so they say
since 1998, this is my 2nd cell phone, on a $29 package with all incoming call 'free'...
but i did exact TWO more batteries from my provider for future use... if-the-need-arises

Now that I have my Nokia N95 8GB phone for a while i'm completely happy with my choice. It's got a dual core processor!!! and there are so many softwares available for it. A lot of fun. Multi-tasking,.. no problem. I can track where I go with the AGPS, have that automatically uploaded and then check in Google maps where I've been, meanwhile also count how many steps I made (using the built in accelerator,. and based on that it calculates how many calories I spent. While all that, I can listen to music, and play some awesome games which look great with the built in graphical card. And while all that I can take pictures of video as well.
But if you take it to the limit like that, the battery is empty in like 4 hours.
I can talk to it and it will recognize what I said. For example the name of a person I want to call and it will automatically call that number (and I don't have to teach it to recognize speech, it just does.)
which brings me to one more feature,.... it even makes phone calls!
Though I don't use it much for that. :) It is a handy feature though.
Here's a picture:

I have a Motorola Hint QA30. Has everything I really want and need, MP3 and video playback, expandable memory (up to 8 GB), qwerty keyboard, 2 MP picture and video capture, and GPS. It also has a pretty nice web browser for a cell phone, with flexible scrolling, zooming, data catch, bookmarks, cookies and a web history. I don't use the internet except to amuse myself waiting somewhere like the doctors office though. I really bought it because I wanted a phone with a qwerty keyboard and MP3 player with expandable memory, everything else is just a bonus really.

Because you can't just stick the iPhone in your pocket without constant fear of breaking it, seems to break rather easy as well. Touch screen qwerty keyboards don't allow you to type as fast as a dedicated hardware keyboard. You can only get it from AT&T in the States, and not everyone wants to do business with them. Also I never cared for Apple's stuff and, think most of it is over priced IMHO, just look at the burn the very first buyers of the iPhone suffered after a couple of months of the phone's initial release.

Just like PeterIMC, I own an Nokia N95 8GB. Build in GPS makes sure I never have to rely on underdeveloped Si ;). And all the programs that Symbian OS supports, such as a DIVX player, GBA/SNES roms, youtube, googletalk, etc, make sure I never run out of things to do on my way to work. HSPA internet is also great for reading various news websites aswell as this forum.
The only downside is.. I use it too often, so my phonebills end up 100 euro's a month. >_<***

Well if you like doing more than one thing at a time then the iPhone is not the way to go, I haven't been able to stomach a single threaded phone since '97. With that said, if you just like to do basic e-mail, music, and web browsing (not at the same time) and don't really care about customization then the iPhone/iTunes ecosystem is a good fit.

OEMs won't be shipping devices flashed at that factory with builds of WinMo7 until Q2/3 next year. WinMo6.5 is slated to start shipping Q3 this year, with free upgrades available through certain manufacturers (HTC being one of them).
If you're more on the adventurous side you can check out To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. There's tons of VERY good cooked ROMs floating around for various devices. sony-ericsson z750a for the personal phone. I like the southwing stereo bluetooth headset I picked up for 50 bucks, the expensive little m2 or some such nonstandard 2 gig memory card cost too much and is useless in anything else tho.

I'd rather wait for WM7.
The reason is simple - waiting gives me time to save cash... You know how it is with all these high-end phones... They aren't cheap. Even if I have the money I would hesitate and think for a LONG time before I actually buy any of those high-end phones...
If the rumors (and the specifications) for the Zune HD is true. I would definitely buy one for myself! NVidia Tegra. Google it, and let's hope it's true! :D

The Zune HD specs being bandied about on the blogs is just what MS is demanding OEMs provide as minimal specs to support WM7. Don't think we'll see a Zune HD/Xbox Phone hybrid thingy directly manufactured by MS, it'll just be some Zunified software pieces within WM7. Frankly, I'm not that enthused, I think that other dev houses, specifically HTC, have already shown that on UI design/aesthetic front they are light years ahead of MS. It will be interesting to see though, the good thing is some of the devices slated for this summer/fall will be up to spec so when WM 7 does drop you can easily reflash your ROM to take advantage of the new OS.

His Phoniness the iPhone 2G, which I think is an appropriate name. While I like my phone, I can't help but notice how some people use their iPhones as a status symbol, which is pure stupid. I'm also sick of people going ZOMG IFONE. I'm not flocking to 3G any time soon. I just got mine last year, and frankly it can go for another two years or so. In fact, I don't know if I'll stay with Apple. Time will tell. I'm liking the App Store so far. Oh, to people whose iPhones lag, take off themes. Don't use Winterboard (it's tempting, I know). My phone can go for two days without charging, and I put it on 3/4 brightness. Turn off blue tooth and GPS when you don't need it. My phone was laggy as hell when I had Windows Vista theme on (to be fair, it was a theme on the heavy duty end, with major artwork and system tweaks). I love the theme and everything, but it's just not worth it (I used to be OBSESSED with themes). I decided I like my theme-less wallpaper iPhone just fine.

I had a Motorola Q until the day it crashed at a critical time while I was coordinating delegates on the floor of a political convention. Luckily I had hard copies of everything along with pen and paper. I ended up running my ass off and doing it old school and then calling a long list of people the next day to apologize. The experience was a big awakening in the context of my dependency on technology.
I now have a Verizon LG and while I do miss having Outlook synched to my phone, my stress level has significantly decreased and I am functioning just fine with this no bells and whistles reliable phone.

I love the touch-screen on it. I don't think that I'll ever happily go back to a phone without one. Its got windows-mobile which is handy too. I had to add a storage card, but now I can listen to music at work with it. The best thing was that it was priced around $700 but then it didn't sell well, so they lowered it to $150.

Sony Ericsson K790.
I have had it for years, and had no hiccups at all. It's made so intuitively, too. I just discovered a few months ago that without a connector cord, I could transfer pictures I took with it to my lap top via bluetooth.
The only bad thing about it is the size. I wish it was just a few mm thinner so that it could fit in my pocket a little better. Maybe a few more megapixels on the camera, too.
I can't believe THIRTEEN of you have iPhones! Frankly, I'm a bit disgusted. Maybe it's just here in Canada, but here the social stigma attached to iPhone owners is 'Trend-whore'.

BB curve....wanted one for a while...very useful....I just can't stand when people get a BB or iphone and don't actually use nor need the capabilities on it. I actually use and need the pushed email, bluetooth, gps capabilities, etc. But I'm thinking of turning off the BB service, and just getting internet because I will go off to uni. I won't need pushed email because I can get my yahoo email on this yahoo application for BB that I already use.
Sony Ericsson, pretty basic. I don't need internet on it or email (although I believe it could be set up for internet- I just don't pay for it). I've had it over 3 years, and been pretty happy. It's clear, and the battery lasts a long time.

I agree. The main non-starter for me was that it was an Apple product, and the deal killer was the onscreen keyboard. OMFG AIDS.

LG 260 (Rumor). Possibly the worst phone ever made. Everyone I've talked to who has it hates it, even those on different carriers. Randomly shuts off, the keyboard glitches all the time, and the backspace key will delete an entire text if you don't hold your mouth right when pressing it. Only reason I have it is it was the only non-smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard that my carrier offered.

Black LG Chocolate. VX8550. I love that phone, even though I'd like a quicker way to get to my past phone calls. I almost killed my cell three weeks ago (full immersion in lake water...), but so far I'm hoping that the new battery I ordered will keep the phone alive for more than two days at a time. Before ordering the battery, I did some research on other phones (just to see if they'd be worth the investment), only to come to the conclusion that I'd try to find my current phone on eBay if I couldn't revive it.

But you do need the Internet,... interesting.
How so? The internet is useful, and entertaining. Not being a traveling salesman, MD on call, or 13 year old junior high student, a mobile phone is superfluous. Similarly, computer and internet, yes, photoshop or DVD players, for example, no. Useless to me.
All in all, I'm for technology. I'm not for valueless consumer products whose function is overwhelmingly conspicuous consumption and above all the profits of the company. A 'Chipkaart', for example. Or a 'Kindle': horrible idea. In effect one ends up 'renting' books from Amazon, at her corporate pleasure. Renting 'Dickens' is like 'renting' a digital Beethoven. Forget it, I-tunes.
To return to the mobile phone. When the cost declines so that that of a land-line and mobile connection are equal -- that is, when the technology has matured -- I'll consider it. Till then for most it's just another way for the telephone company to raid one's wallet.

Was never a fan of phones but I've had the Nokia N900 for a few weeks now after having an iPhone. Sure it makes and receives calls but it's also open source Linux, POSIX complient, runs Python and what ever I might like... it also has a 5meg camera with flash and can take videos and heaps of other nice things. All my wishes were answered with this phone!

That looks FIRM. I approve.
Thanks. It's the one on the left. But without the Sprint logo.

Samsung B2700.
My criteria were
1) can make calls
2) can be used as a hammer

How is this the case? With some practice, you can master the off button.

Years old, still going - ergo no need to replace :p

Since Christmas, I've had an HTC Magic (which has different names in different markets with different carriers) with Android. I really like it so far - it does way more stuff than my old junky phone did. Until Summer 2009, I had a Samsung slider phone from 2007, which eventually broke (subsequent disassembly of the phone revealed the tape-like electronic connector between the two sliding components to be torn). When that happened, I went back to this Nokia "candy bar" phone from 2005 (somewhat similar to the one in the thread above), which was junk. It worked fine but the functionality was ancient and I don't there was a way to lock the keypad, so I'd always be hitting buttons by accident, etc. I do think the battery runs out faster on my new phone, but I have it plugged in to the charger every night anyway.

This wouldn't surprise me. New phones tend to be a lot more power hungry than older ones. Bigger, color screens, more applications running in the background, having to maintain registration on more than one type of network, and other factors all contribute. Battery technology has not kept pace with other parts of phone development.

Can't wait for the contract to end, so I can get a phone with more advanced features, such as the ability to upload my own ringtone, play games, and the confidence that there won't be a voice asking me to say a name or shortcut coming out of my pants.

I have a Samsung GT-18501. It's shipped from England. Father asked uncle (who resides in the land of the Tea) to provide smartphones for my sister and me.
He didn't want the mounds of data piling up that would result from purchasing directly from our carrier (contracts are a pain in the rear end) and so opted for the foreign option.
It's complicated.
It looks fairly similar to this model:

It works well, but I'm noticing major lags recently. The touch function can be iffy and the speakers give out at inopportune moments.
Not complaining though, it's a slick little phone.
Nevertheless.. Perfect size and amount of bang for my buck, plus I use it for what I actually need in a phone.

A smart one.
HTC Desire + Nokia 3410 as backup.
I don't even know, a basic one which I only use to answer calls. Totally sucks. Totally despise being called, but I still need it, mostly for work. Very much looking forwards to being cell phone less.

Samsung Galaxy S III, just got it today, lost my old phone which was a basic LG model (Rumour Plus). I like that all my phone contacts are now synced to my gmail contacts, so at least the scenario won't happen again where I lose an important one I can't easily recover because I forgot to write their number down somewhere safe. Wasn't worth the $360 I had to spend to replace my phone though, kind of adds insult to injury. I'll see how the battery life and reliability are.

Had to give up my work-issued Galaxy II (awesome) and buy a cheapo HTC One V from Virgin Mobile, but so far the HTC is decent. Had one minor battery thing where it appeared to not charge past 57% but a reset solved it.

Samsung Galaxy II. I love it. We all got them at work 2 people have serious issues with theirs, one turns off and won't charge or turn back on, the others constantly hangs up on its own during conversations. One was replaced by company because it died after a month. The people with trouble find if they take out the battery and reinstall it they are good to go again. Mine has worked flawlessly.

iPhone 4S. It would seriously be almost impossible for me to go to my school without a smartphone (it's a huge campus, for a few weeks I was completely lost without maps and bus schedules, and I still use an app to find buses to catch a few times a day). I got mine the same day I moved in. I previously had a shitty little EnV3.
