more support for my theory :) He mentions this towards the end.
This great to watch if you are interested in the human brain!
In a wide-ranging talk, Vilayanur Ramachandran explores how brain damage can reveal the connection between the internal structures of the brain and the corresponding functions of the mind. He talks about phantom limb pain, synesthesia (when people hear color or smell sounds), and the Capgras delusion, when brain-damaged people believe their closest friends and family have been replaced with imposters

that's not necessarily genetic, brain and body trauma can often produce the same things and more--I believe the quote says that as well

I don't need to. I'm familiar with everything he speaks of any more. The 'talk' is bogged down and he takes liberty by either purposely or ignorantly skipping over all of the problems. However, the talk is obviously not aimed at deep discussion merely introducing people to basic concepts.

most people that have a strong ability to think metaphoricaly don't gain that ability from trauma I would wager.

I'm a strong metaphorical thinker, in that when I teach, I simply keep switching metaphors until my student gets the concept. The vast majority of my instruction experience is cross cultural, and I've found that if you don't share a common culture, metaphor is sometimes the only way to get a point across. Interesting implications on development of language, culture and technology through time, particularly, prehistory. Intriguing as to music as well.
