This thread is mostly for me to keep up with changes I make on the forum, most of which will be minor. I may also list 'milestones' and other noteworthy happenings that don't deserve their own thread. However, if anyone has questions or wants to discuss anything I write in here, feel free to make a thread about it.

This thread is also public just in case any of the changes I make unexpectedly affect the forum negatively or so people can see why there might have been downtime. Please notify me if you notice any problems with the forum.

It looks like the forum is running smoothly so I'm lifting the members only access today. Don't expect a sudden rise in traffic though. I still haven't linked the forum and it usually takes a while for the search engine spiders to crawl new sites. However, I will be inviting more people over the weekend.

There is an issue with some of the members' ranks being displayed to the left of the avatar instead of on top. This is something I'll look into when I get off work.

Moved the main topic boards to the top and the community boards to the bottom.

Enabled the reputation system. For now you have to view the member's profile to see it.

The politics and science sections are back. I temporarily moved them so the board wouldn't look so empty and they hadn't been posted in yet, but I brought them back since more people are finding the forum.

We just got listed in Google tonight! People have already been finding this site through other links, but hopefully being listed in a search engine will help us grow even more in the coming weeks.

Made a couple of small quick fixes in the template. There was a problem with some of the avatars not displaying properly (to the right of the user group instead of below). Added some space under the user text.

Small change: deleted a couple of 'test' profile fields that were showing up but didn't really do anything.

Added an update to the split/splice feature. Shouldn't be noticeable except by the staff.

Added a patch tonight to fix an issue with google indexing print/send pages instead of regular threads. Shouldn't be noticeable on the actual forum though.

Three known issues I'm looking into:

Sometimes when replying to private messages, a file not found error occurs.

Some members are getting blank pages when they click the activation link in their registration email. - still not sure why this is happening, but most members are able to register without issues...

Sometimes the forum time resets and is an hour off despite the settings being right in my profile. (on my account...not sure if it's happening to anyone else). - fixed, I think.

Removed all buttons from the admin/moderator templates that allow one click permanent post deletes. All posts deleted by mods will now go to the recycle bin to prevent posts being permanently deleted by misclicks.

Removed options to link to avatars on other websites. All avatars must now either be uploaded to the server or from the forum gallery.

Well, nobody has mentioned it yet but you might notice this error on a couple of topics and be unable to open them. Don't fret, the topics are still there. I'm applying a fix later tonight so it won't happen anymore.

This issue has been resolved and shouldn't happen again. The threads that had the error work again.

Made a few extra security updates. Shouldn't affect any of the current members.

Also disabled underscores in usernames for new members that register. Underscores conflict with uploading avatars to the server.

Adjusted the registration security settings. Some of the members trying to register were having trouble with the activation link. Hopefully this will fix that issue without letting the spammers through.

Split the support forum and community into separate categories. The support forum is at the top and the community forum is at the bottom. Left introductions at the top so it's easier for new members to find.

I locked a lot of outdated threads in the support forum. Since we changed forum software, many of them won't make sense anymore and I don't want them to get bumped.

I also stickied the admin blog so it will be easier for me to find.

I renamed and split the member picture thread (http://intjforum.com/showthread.php?t=437) for easier management.

Since the topics are frequently brought up in new threads every few weeks, I have stickied the age (http://intjforum.com/showthread.php?t=1587)and location (http://intjforum.com/showthread.php?t=1777)threads in The Lounge.

Rearranged the listing order of the 'Word and Beyond' subforums. It's a minor change, and all of the names and threads stayed in the same place.

Just want to note we reached 1,000 members yesterday, on January 11th. That's almost exactly four months since the forum was launched.

The option to search for words found only in thread titles is now available from the main search popup. This means it is no longer necessary to go to the advanced search page just to use this option.

A couple of minor updates:

There are no post requirements to view images, links and attachments in the Support & Feedback and Introduction subforums.

Forum links now open in the same window.

There were some upgrades to the server the forum is hosted on today. I got an email from the hosting company explaining there will be reboots and possible downtime. If the forum is down for any time, or you are getting database errors, this is why. It's only a temporary issue and should be over with shortly.

I have added the username to the bottom of each post next to the online status icon. The argument has been made that signing the name at the bottom of posts is useful when posts are long so that members don't have to scroll back up to see who posted. Since we do not allow signatures (including signing names to posts), this is meant as a compromise so all usernames are visible at the bottoms of posts.

For privacy reasons, I have moved the location/age threads to the member's only section.

You might have received database errors this morning while trying to post or access certain forum features. Everything should be fine now. I was uploading files and went over the disk space quota, which automatically shuts the databases down until more disk space is available. There isn't actually a diskspace issue. I manually set the quotas and I just needed to allocate more space to the forum.

I've been getting a lot of private messages the past week with requests for post edits, deletions, topic changes, thread moves, and other moderator tasks. Please use the report button instead of sending a PM directly to me. The report button can be found at the bottom of each post and looks like this:

The report message goes directly to a report subforum that only our moderators and administrators can see. It is primarily the duty of the moderators to take care of these tasks and they won't see the PM you send to me. If you need to contact a moderator of a particular subforum directly, you can see their names on the forum index, the top of each subforum index, or on this list (http://intjforum.com/showgroups.php).

There are times when you will need to contact an administrator instead of a moderator. Only administrators edit profile information, ban, deal with the forum software or issues with our web host. If you have questions about any of these issues, feel free to contact one of the administrators. If you need to edit a post past the time lock, delete a post, change a thread title, move a thread, see someone in violation of our policies or other questionable material, please report the post. If you do not get a response from reporting the post or sending a PM to the assigned moderator, then it's okay to go ahead and send an administrator a PM to find out the status of your request.
