+1 on Scotch. Specifically single malts

Other whiskys I like that don't originate from Scotland are Jameson (Irish) and Nikka (Japan).

I also readily admit to being sort of a beer snob. American microbrews and English ales make me happy ;D

+2 to single malts. I love good scotch. It is expensive, but I would rather have a taste of good scotch once a week then get drunk on cheap stuff every night. I always tell people, life is too short to drink cheap whisky

Vodka, beer, vodka with beer (mess you up), rum, whiskey (only when there's nothing else), cognac. That's about it.

Too much to mention really. My absolutely favourite drink is Amarula, a South African liquor made from the Marula fruit, which actually is the favourite food of the elephants. I got hold of it when I visited the place and well... my mind melts apart every time I drink it.

Apart from that I love good beers, Jägermeister, Minttu, Fishman's and of course some good ol' Scotch. I seem to have forgotten the name of the best one I have tasted, though :cheesy:. Ohh, and wine is nice too. And to be fair, water and ice tea is nice to drink too for more everyday occasions. And juice.

Fixed... and naturally I agree.

As for me, vodka, vodka, vodka, and more vodka. I just hate buying drinks at a bar/pub. Because they always use the cheapest shit they can (aka, Smirnoff normally). It tastes horrible. And it's not chilled.

Vodka should be served cold enough to freeze your face off.

Apart from that, various liquers as they take my fancy.

Good beer, duh. I really want to drink my Biere de Garde right now, but cannot because I have not killed what is on tap right now (an Am IPA, and a sweet potato ale).

After really really good beer it goes to red wine, mainly Zinfandels, Syrah, petit Syrah, Primitivo, anything super full on flavor.

Then it goes to the hardcore. I love margaritas well made with the best ingredients. I love Cognac, brandy, and any (high end) whiskey.

As already mentioned by other posters it has to be high end or else I will consider it swill. Particularly with beer. Few people realize the depth beer actually encompases. Give me something made in the Netherlands, Belgium of France and I am a happy man.

I like the topic of this thread!

07.00 - 10.00hrs - Coffee
10.00 - 13.00hrs - Water
13.00 - 14.00hrs - Glass of vino: typically a light red or a crisp white
14.00 - 19.00hrs - Water

Then, after 19.00hrs:
* If going out - Vino (as above) / G&T / Beer
* If staying in - Whisky (Scotch, naturally) - preferrably a Speyside or Orkney but can be tempted by an oily, peaty islander. I've never tried a whisky from elsewhere in the world - why should I have to?

Hmmm, Ardbeg good but I prefer Bunnahabhain or Coal Ila - a bit lighter. Always cask strength, unchilled filtered preferred, never ice, served with a dash of water (<20%) to release the flavour. Delightful :)

Not to get to technical Bloozegit, but Talisker is from the isle of skye not from Islay. It is considered a Island malt not an Islay. It is very good though. Definitely in my top ten.

One of the tastiest malts I have had was a Cadenhead Talisker 18. Single barrel, unfiltered, cask strength. The taste was so intense and peppery. Makes my mouth wather to think about.

Although Lindeman's fruit series is good, they pasteurize and backsweeten taking away a lot of the character that you find in the 'pure' lambics, gueze, etc. Try Lindeman's Cuvee Rene, or anything with the word gueze in it. Be ready for a sour bomb. Other than Lindeman's there are fruit lambics that have the name framboise, kriek, peche, etc. in them, I cannot think of a single one that backsweetens other than Lindeman's, so try those, it will be a surprise.

These styles are the ones that I have specialized in in my personal brewing, and my cultures are so diverse that to recreate them would take 100s of dollars.

I live no where where you would find any of those.

You can find them in Sams Wines in Downers Grove IL, probably the one downtown Chicago as well. I have found them in Kahn's in Carmel, IN, which is now known as something else, but is the same place. I have found them in a little shop in Portland, OR called Edelweiss deli or something like that. Diagonally from the Hopleaf in Chicago is a liquor store that has them as well. Liquor Barns in KY have them (at least the one in eastern parts of Louisville). All but one of those fits in a region that probably says where I live :0

Absinthe has always sounded really interesting to me, ever since I read this article (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) about four years ago. With my family's alcohol tolerance history, however, I don't know whether I could stomach it.

What I'd really like to try is mead, though. One of the world's oldest alcohol beverages. I'm particularly curious as to how it would taste.

Nothing wrong with PBR, I change my beer preferences with my mood and seasons. PBR is an awesome after working all day in the summer tired, beer. Today, slow snowy winter day, I'm in a milk stout mood. And, BM I have a friend that makes mead. It is very good!

I make about 10-20 gallons of mead a year. Imagine honey with absolutely all of the sweetness stripped out (dry meads, the ones I like anyway), just the pure flavor of honey. Its really good. Varietals are amazing too. I have a 100% sage honey mead in my basement right now, and it has the most peculiar taste.

Word to the green fairy!

But typically, I drink vodka, red wine (Cabernet, shiraz or merlot) or beer. We have a lot of microbreweries where I live (the highest per capita in the US I believe!) so you can't really help it. I like Easy Street Wheat, Twisted Pine Raspberry (the only fruity beer I like), most of the New Belgium stuff, Isolation Ale and Tommyknoker. All that is locally brewed :) As far as imports go I'll drink Corona, Stella, Blue Moon and PBR.

I used to like whiskey a lot. Then one night I liked it a bit too much and now I can't drink it anymore. :undecided:

Vodka, rum, scotch, gin, and Drambuie. I like some others too, but those are my favorites. If i have to drink wine, I generally prefer dry red wines. I don't really care for wine much though. I have issues with beer. I'm extremely picky, but I haven't been able to actually figure out what I like about beer and what I hate about it. I've always wanted to try mead too. Mostly though, I just prefer liquor. ;D

Guinness & Newcastle are my favorite brews - but I generally like Stouts, Porters & Dunkels and often try various microbrews. My tastes have been drawn towards brew that's dark and / or muddy.

It wasn't until maybe 4 years ago that I got into it, but I like scotch, too. Long story short, I remember getting the chance to try 12, 16, and then 21 year Glenlivet. Needless to say, I love the 21 year and can't really enjoy the younger ones. Since I have a 3-day weekend, I've been pondering getting a bottle. Has anyone else tried similarly aged variants?

Funny - I was also thinking about Mead because I hadn't had some in a few years. It was a... different taste, of course, compared to the things I enjoy. But because you all mentioned it, I also couldn't help but recall how I chuckled upon first seeing it because a) it looks like and b) it sort of reminds me of honey-lemon cough syrup. It was only one bottle, though, so I never knew about things like sweetness versus dryness. Guess I'll have to find out in another sampling.

I don't know jack about wine and never had a strong desire to try more.
