I had a friend who recently linked me to a legeslation out of Texas,

Now I know this isnt entirely trustworthy I have looked at some other links and have seriouse doubts as to the truth of this and the other states enacting similar legeslation. There is a large chance this is simple political grandstanding or that lawmakers and republicans are simply trying to garner support from more right wing voters who knows.
Also somewhat recently I found out about

Which is real and true.
Now I myself am not much of a chicken little and doubt seriously that the last 8 years of goverment power expansion is likely to continue. Under Bush there is no doubt we were moving closer to a police state but I personally hope that this trend is reversed...opinions?
Pfft. Of course government power is going to continue to expand, it will just be under the titles of more innocuous sounding ideas now, like promoting societal welfare, and things like that.

The links are ng, but the stuff that came up looks interesting. I'd say its mostly grandstanding, maybe testing the waters to see how much support can be garnered when the time is ripe.
Fact is, government is only one part of the whole puzzle. Big business, the illuminati.... whatever you want to call those people who have true power; they will always be working toward gaining more control.
With technology, it will only become more and more easy. If GWB taught the world anything, it's that some people will believe whatever they are told to believe. Give those people a voice, and they'll convert others to your cause. A loud minority trumps a docile majority any day.
I doubt anyone would want to seceed, but then; people will do whatever suits them at any given time...

I can't find the stories you're referring to as the links don't work. They seem to have ellipses in them? If you could fix them, that would be great, as from the responses it seems like they may refer to secession, which is a topic I have some opinions about.

Is this the article?
EDIT: BTW Holiman, if you want to post links in future, copy the address from the address bar and post it. You probably copied the ones in the OP from somewhere else, and didn't get the whole thing.

I'm very heartened by that article! It's about time the 10th amendment got its teeth back, so if it's more than grandstanding it could be a very good thing for our country. The states were intended to check the federal government all along, after all, but they were marginalized by the 14th amendment and judicial activists ignoring the 10th, so the Leviathan has grown to immense proportions.
I'd like to make clear that I don't really think much of the Constitution when compared to better, more decentralized systems like anarchy or even the Articles of Confederation, but if it were enforced it would be a great improvement over what we live under today.

Secession in the United States was ruled illegal in 1869 by Texas v. White (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.). I don't agree - at all - with this ruling, and wish it would be overturned.

The way the constitution was written made it abundantly clear that the Federal Government was a Union, not a entity unto itself, however that has been increasingly ignored as of late, sadly.

Apparently, not much is clear in the constitution since those boneheads didn't didn't include the "it means exactly what it says" clause.
