i'm not sure whether to put this one on the entertainment section but i think these kinds of shows best fits here...
well anyway, i was often late at classes when i was in 4th grade because i don't want to miss "medical detectives" on discovery channel. i am so fascinated about the lab works on how they have solved crimes there...
then csi miami is my favorite.

I find CSI Miami kind of hilarious. Mostly because Horatio is his own one-man detective team, and the others are really just there for diversity. :P
Team Member: Hey, I found this, do you think it could mean this?
Other Team Member: I dunno. I'll go test it at the lab.
Horatio: No, it obviously means THIS.
Other Team Member: But we haven't even test-
*Horatio turns out to be right.
Horatio: My work here is done.

i like CSI and Bones, but Dexter is the one that makes my toes tingle.

I do 'em all (or, at least most of that genre);
- CSI & CSI Miami (can't connect with CSI: New York, don't know why)
- Bones
- Medical Detectives
- First 48 (how it happens IRL)
- City Confidential
- Dr G; Medical Examiner
(I know there's more, just can't think of them)

I found them interesting at first, but it somehow de-humanises the whole cop drama thing into a high-school science fair. Maybe it's just my short attention span, but if they changed a new cast/character line-up with every episode of CSI I wouldn't notice, since most episodes seem to follow the mystery->hypothesis->evidence gathering->testing->showdown kind of format.
The only one that really has some character relationship development and the good ole' cop-buddies-watching-out-for-each-other kind of feel is Bones, though the inevitable geek-science-factor has to be thrown in to justify its existence. It could also be because they somehow parallel Mulder and Scully in X-files, which was one of my faves.
And of course, there's always the sceptic in me that refuses to suspend disbelief when watching TV :suspicious:, especially those that are supposed to be "based" on real investigative methods. In that context I'd rather have the aliens and conspiracy theories.

i honestly cant watch anything fictional.
when i was growing up i used to love "Operation" on the Discovery channel. My mom would walk in to me munching happily on supper while watching open heart surgery on TV....haha... i never found it unappetizing, but my mother however....

No doubt the fictional shows are quite formulaic but I like the "creative" ways that the writes use to come to resolve the mysterious death. Besides, it gives great hints for construction of the perfect crime! ;)

Mmmmm, nothing like watching blood-soaked surgeons while munching on a steak! No, really! I eat my dinners quite often to Dr G, or First 48.

I like the original CSI, but CSI Miami bugs me because the main character (Horatio) is just so damned dramatic. I swear, every line he reads is made to sound it's the most dire, important thing ever.
I used to like Bones, but they've sorta drifted the show into a "peronal relationship" realm with the characters hooking up...which is just a little unattractive because it's not believable to me.

House MD is the only one I watch. I watch it with more interest now that I've found out he is an immature ENTP.

I've never been a big fan of medical dramas but I caught a few episodes of House purely because I love Blackadder, which has Hugh Laurie doing an *entirely* different thing. Check it out! He still uses some of the same facial expressions though, somehow I get a kick out of that :p

I love Csi the Las Vegas one but i also love Criminal Minds (not medical, but it still rocks). I would love to have the job of a criminal analyst someday.

Horatio, in CSI: Miami, can get to be a bit overly dramatic most of the time (and that "pose" that he has affected is quite annoying). I hope the writers can find another way to portray his character. I don't want this to turn into the Horatio Kane show.
What I would like for them to start doing on all of the CSI shows is to make the timelines more realistic. I don't mind the "super science" that they use to solve the crimes, but "same-day DNA tests" is a bit outlandish (and insulting for the real CSI-types).

On the other hand, some other thread was bemoaning the death of science. Maybe it just needs to be sexed up and dramatised on TV. Who knows, it might inspire someone to unlock the human genome...

Horatio in CSI: Miami: the sunglasses. 'nuff said.
All the CSI: X women detectives. High heels, fashionable, perhaps skimpy/risque clothes: 'nuff said.
Criminal minds is good. I like the one quirky dude. The quirkier people are the more amusing people.
House is also good due to Dr House being quirky. Same with Scrubs.
I like the smart-ass people on CSI: NY.
I started the 'death of science thread' but it's not like science is completely being killed. It's that people are getting *more* interested in forensic type science that is dramatized on TV. There are stats that far more people are interested in that than ever before. I also think medical doctors are also in an increase. More people want to be them. It's the research science that's not getting attention and/or popularity. I just wanted to make that distinction. /rant

My biggest complaint w/ the CSI's (and most other TV shows) - (most) everyone is beautiful! All the women are big-busted, and wear tight pants & low-cut blouses. All the men are "hunks". Even the criminals are fine!!
"When I run TV" 75% of all actors will be like normal people (i.e. ill-dressed, overweight, with asymmetrical faces and bad speaking voices). Only 5 minutes of air-time will be devoted to breast/booty shots per show. And all outdoor shots will take place in strip-malls and/or 7-11 stores. 50% of all criminals will be white, and ethnic minorities will survive to the end of the show. Women will not trip when running. And no character will be allowed to say, "Everything will be alright".

Completely agree. I like the original CSI better. CSI: Miami is just way too dramatic and Horatio's trademark pose and unchanging tone of voice are as predictable as the ghosts that appear at the end of every episode of Cold Case.
Same thing for Bones, they are focusing more on the relationships between the characters than a good crime to solve.

Would NCIS count as a "medical" detective?
I'll include it anyway due to forensic testing and such, even if it doesn't quite apply. Mark Harmon is so great in the show as Gibbs and Pauley Perrette as a goth lab technician = :lovestruck:

I'm pretty much in the same boat. The writing on most shows is just atrocious, and if it's "Good", it's almost always too over-the-top.
The only TV I watch is like poker events, I Love New York, American Idol, HIsory Channel, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, and sporting events (baseball, football, hockey).
What irks me about these criminal detective shows is that 98% of Americans watch them, and they act like they're studied in medical minutia. Everyone thinks they're a doctor because they watch CSI. It's freaking laughable.
Same thing with all the legal shows...everyone suddenly knows legal jargon because they watched LA Law. And everyone's an interior designer now because they watch "flip this house".
It's just absurd. :)

These shows appeal to me too. One of my favorite shows is Dr. G: Medical Examiner on Discovery Health. I used to watch CSI: Las Vegas. I watch Dexter.

My favorite episodes of Flip That House are the ones where people got the idea in their head that they could flip a house easily and end up failing. >:D

My wife and oldest son watch "Flip..." and spend the entire show criticizing the people for making dumb decisions. I always ask them, "If you're so smart, why aren't you out there making money flipping houses?". That usually shuts 'em up!

lol...You'd better watch what you say, man...She may just decide to take you up on that, then you're going to end up being dragged into it too.
I criticize it all the time. I don't flip houses because I haven't got the funding or the credit for it, nor do I want to deal with the hassle of selling the thing.
