View Full Version : Do INTXs hate open doors?

I can't stand open doors, and frequently yell at people, telling them to close doors. According to biographies on Napoleon he couldn't stand them either. He probably was eNtJ. I suspect this is something most xNTJs do.
Is it?

I don't like open cabinets, but that's because mine are at forehead level. It also wears out the hinges.

But I'd honestly not care if cabinets didn't have doors.

Just wondering... how do you feel about a doorway that has no door attached?

I tend to close doors reflexively. But, for some reason, I leave the doors to my house open if I'm going to be just outside without thinking about the fact it's 5F or 105F outside and I'm heating the world. ...at least for a few seconds. So, I guess not.

I have an ENFJ friend who has a compulsion about open cabinets and doors. His wife and I intentionally leave them ajar to mess with him. They don't bother me one bit.

No unless there's a reason why the door should be closed (like say insects getting in) I'm fine with them.

I actually prefer my doors closed. I get very upset if people come in, and then leave, leaving the door behind them open.

I just like the privacy of closed doors. And it keeps out noise from below.

Yes I do. Especially personal room. Exceptions are open doors with intention of ventilating.

I'd feel terrible about it!!! With out a closed door ppl can hear you, and even worse you hear them:scared: Then there is the light, I don't like light from several directions. Perhaps since a single light source reminds me of fire, and fires are cosy.

I prefer closed doors. It keeps the sounds made by noisy people outside, where it belongs.

I hate open doors. I prefer to keep things compartmentalized.

I don't care about doors but anyone who leaves cabinets open without a purpose is either lazy or a moron. Or both.

I'd keep my door closed all the time (standard reasons, privacy, quiet, keeps it warmer in here) if it weren't for family. It's easier to deal with the noise than "Stop being so antisocial, we'd like to see you more, we can't tell if you're in there when the door's closed.."

I don't really care whether a door is open or not unless it has some reason to be closed or open. I always like to keep external house doors closed (for obvious reasons) and occasionally room doors closed when I have my volume up. I also prefer that all bathroom doors are left open (when not in use), so I know whether they're in use or not. I remember when I was little, I used to close all the doors in the house just because it looked so bizarre.

I usually don't notice whether a door is open or closed.

Open doors are a security issue. If someone tries to break in, I want to hear them trying to thwart every barrier. I won't make it easier on them by leaving doors open.

I don't really notice or care whether doors are open or closed, with the exception of my room door. I hate it when people walk into my room and leave it just almost-closed when they go out. It's almost a reflex, when people leave my room - 'CLOSE THE DAMN DOOR!' :irked:

If it's a door between the inside of a building and the outside, I'd assume that it should probably be closed. But as for inside doors, I prefer to leave them open, unless I'm sleeping or taking a crap or something like that, or if it's late and I don't want to keep other people up with my light and noise.

Open drawers / cabinets yes, otherwise not particularly. My bedroom door is usually cracked open if closed at all.

I don't care if the door's open or closed.

I do care when morons either keep it open when the air conditioning or heat is on or stand and have a conversation in the middle of the darn doorway.

Doesn't really matter much to me... except for the issue above poster suggested.. leaving it open to waste energy.

I really dislike leaving cabinet doors open, but most of the time doors to the outside are open. It helps that I live where it is warm most of the time. But even in summer when the temp gets into the high 90's and the humidity kills of the mere mortals I still prefer the outside doors open rather than air conditioning. I usually don't even lock doors when I leave. So I am not giving out my address. I live where it is reasonably safe.

This strikes me as something that is probably related more to the individual than the MBTI type.

Persoanlly, I have no issues with doors being open or closed, though for security reasons I like doors to the outside closed if I'm not in the room, and for convenience, I prefer to close cabinet doors if I'm operating in the area.

Doors don't bother me, unless it's like a cabinet or a drawer... I'm a spaz about that. If I walk in an office and there is a drawer or cabinet cracks a little bit I will close it the rest of the way... Unless, of course, it's blatantly obvious they are working from it.

I don't think doors bother me as much because of my cats. I have to leave all the doors cracked so they can get in and out of my room and to the litter box and their food bowls.

Hmm.....I can't stand it when a cabinet door or drawer is left open, but as for doors, I only care about external doors and outward-opening doors. Doors which open inward, towards the room they protect, can be left open with no emotional trauma.

Many thanks for posing the question, now I realize I'm completely neurotic.

I'll answer as if you were referring to questions with obvious answers: YES!

I cannot stand that and will most likely refuse to give a straight answer.

Doors are split in my head: ones that *should* be closed and ones that *should* be open. If a door that should be closed (eg, the living room door) is left open, I close it automatically. My husband/mother/whoever left the door open says something guilty-sounding, because apparently I look cross when I do this (quite unintentional). Doors that should be open, I don't mind so much if they're closed, unless I think it's to keep me out :P

Sometimes. But my REAL pet peeve is sitting in a restaurant or bar or something with my back to the door. When I do, whenever some comes in, I feel compelled to look over my shoulder to make sure it isn't someone I know or something. I'm sure that's very distracting/annoying to people I'm with.

What about bedroom doors when you are sleeping? I personally can't stand it to be open and must instinctively close it first.

I dunno.. strong J's are more likely to be annoyed by little things like this then weak J's or P's.

I'm a closed bedroom door sleeper most of the time, too... but that's more a privacy issue... want to make it as hard as I can for the wandering astral entities to come in and start messing with my mind while I sleep. :p

Lately I find myself closing every open cabinet door I come across, but it might just be a habit at this point (two years of having a baby sister and needing to baby-proof everything). As long as there's a reason for an external door to be open, I don't mind it; it lets light in anyway and the house is so dark. I don't like external doors open all the time, though. As for inside doors...we have those? Huh... I guess that's what I keep walking into. ;D (Read: I don't notice them unless they're in my way.)

I do care when morons either keep it open when the air conditioning or heat is on or stand and have a conversation in the middle of the darn doorway.

Well, lets be fair to them, it's not like they have an whole entire room to yap away in, or that they look like guard dogs, or that they talk so loudly that they're oblivious to anyone who walks up to them and asks to get through because that's what the doorway was originally intended for. No, it's obviously the rest of the world's fault for wanting to use their doorway for something as mundane as room access.
