Installed Ubuntu (my first Linux experience) on my laptop tonight, and subsequently began reading about the steps required to get my wireless working on it. I started reading, and trying, and learning, and pretty soon I was at that point where nothing else was going to get in the way until I got it working. I started feeling hungry, but I ignored it for as long as I could, because a silly thing like eating certainly wasn't going to distract me. Eventually I got stuck and figured it was a good time for a break, but it was short-lived. I don't intend on sleeping until it's working, or I'm absolutely stuck.

I love that feeling. I love to turn off everything and just code something completely new. What seems like minutes passes into hours of pure unadulterated fun. Longest one was 2 days straight, I tried to sleep but that lasted 10mins before I was drawn back to it.

Yeah... I've woken up in the middle of the night only to start drafting coding plans that I figured out in a dream. This has only happened once, but it was pretty messed. I was so astounded at what I had figured out while I was dreaming, that I woke myself up and started coding. Pretty messed o.0

I got it working, but now that I have a new OS to play with, and working wireless...so much for sleep :p

work if you got the will has always been beautiful. one time i was working on the css lay out of our webpage, i started at 6am then i was completely hooked into it. i never came out of my room then when my eyesight got a bit hazy (coz i was doing it on notepad) i stared somewhere far in my room. i happen to spot on the clock... 5pm!! i have forgotten all about food and taking a bath. all i wanted was that to get the page done.

I think that's a pretty good example of the INTJ's intuition at work. We tend to rely on the subconscious mind quite a bit, and solve problems while dreaming or even while awake and aren't aware our subconscious is chewing at the problem -- then, all of a sudden, EUREKA!

I know the feeling well. I once worked on a project that was due delivery in 48hrs but we were nowhere near ready. So I stayed up for 40hrs coding and testing until the whole thing was done. When the team came into the test lab on the next morning they wer shocked to see me there still working, and even more shocked to know I had never left.
PS - Ubuntu...cool! I installed it on my desktop. It's my first Linux exposure too. Maybe we can swap horror stories.

A miniature version to the above that I experience is delaying drinking water and going to the toilet. You're in a zone and switch off the distractions.
It appears to be when we're trying to solve a complex issue- for me it's when a company problem has multiple interrelationship and you crunch out a load of options and figure out which is best (putting aside the people aspect!).
Apparently this ability to focus intently is an INTJ strength.

Some would say obsession!

I would agree that it's a strength, if only because it allows me to get something done more often than I normally do, because...well, yeah I guess because it is an obsession, hah.
Re: Ubuntu, I found a forum for my exact laptop and a few extra fixes (the sound wasn't working correctly upon load) and at the moment, it seems relatively happy. It's very Mac-like in presentation, I think, and unfortunately I also read that several of my favorite PC games are usable via the Wine emulator-type app; this laptop was supposed to be for writing! :)
