Deities as Avatars

Has anyone done mythological beings like Zeus, Odin, Jesus, etc. as avatars? I was interested in making a series of them, but want to make sure I'm not treading old ground.

I wasn't going to use them, just make them. I've put the first 11 in the user avatar thread already.

Hate to be blunt, but I personally think those fantasy paintings are the kitschiest thing in the world. There is a wealth of classical/renaissance/neoclassical images, maybe I'll counter your avatars with some of my own ;)

I didn't use kitschy fantasy paintings for all of them. ;)

Fine by me if you want to make your own, it's not as if this is a contract that we are competing over.

I love modern art as much as the next person, but I don't know of a lot of (legible) images of deities ;)

(Audrey Flack's Medusa does instantly come to mind, but she is a mere Gorgon!)

Yeah, Jesus wasnt/isnt mythological.

Yes, I've posted a whole slew of different artists' interpretations of goddesses and was about to start on the gods in my av thread when real life interrupted me. Any road, the more the merrier, I say.
