Would the stuff at the bottom not be considered a border for avatar rules purposes?

AliTree
01-14-2009, 03:56 PM
gah i didn't think of that.
i hope it's not....
it's only on the bottom.
a border goes all the around?

I don't use photoshop, but the tools I do use let me do this.
<AliTree got it. removed the original>
Let me know if it works for you and when I can remove it from the website.

Yes, it would. Preventing that kind of thing is actually the essential purpose of the 'no border' stipulation.

If you open the file using Paint and save it as a jpeg file it will make the file size smaller. Can't be easier than that.

Give that a try, then you'll be able to make avatars to your hearts content. If you still have trouble give another shout out in this thread.

That one's upside down! :p

While there's an avatar / photoshop thread open. Can anyone make an avatar of this:

(It's my only proof that I did used to have long golden locks! :) )

Hehe, thanks Syn.

Just got me thinking about that new Brad Pitt film where he is born old and gets younger. I was going to imply that, but just realised that in that case, the photo above would be from the future (and I haven't managed to invent a future-camera yet).

Oh just thought I'd mention it, but that image is a screen-cap of an old VHS film that I transferred to mpeg a few years ago. I need to find the clip I guess.

I think I was being interviewed by my great-uncle (in about 1988) in that picture.

P.S. In case you're wondering, I do know how to cut down avatars like that, but I'm on my Linux machine, and haven't worked out how to do it on that yet.

When you change avatar, is there a way to reserve your previous one?

I mean, whats to stop someone stealing my Neils Bohr?

I mean, whats to stop someone stealing my Neils Bohr?

I wouldn't worry about that, since it's such a Bohring avatar.

(I'm legally required to make bad puns whenever I see the possibility.)

Even when converting to jpeg, it sometimes is tricky to make it smaller than the max file size on this site and still look good, unless you use the save for web function in photoshop.

This should be small enough. :) If not, I can make it smaller; I tend to save them near the borderline.

Interesting, on mine it's about 17kb. Which did you try in the User CP, saving it to your computer and then browsing to the file or using the URL to load the image?

Synamon

I right clicked and saved it to my computer and it's 17kB. Just save the file, don't open it with whatever photo editor you are using and then save it with that alitree.

*shakes head at self in disappointment* didn't even think of just using the URL...sorry. thank you though

Speaking of "while there's an avatar/photoshop thread open" and "long golden locks," can anyone crop and resize my obnoxiously patronizing face so I can join the prestigious ranks of the "I Am My Own Avatar Club?"

Getting a fixed file size in Photoshop is actually quite easy, just choose Save for Web instead of a regular save. Then choose JPEG on the right and there will be a box underneath it for changing the Quality which is an number from 1 to 100 and has a neat slider to it. In the lower left of the window there will be some information about the saved image, including it's final file size so you can keep lowering the quality until it's about right.

Dont know what you mean by make it look better, but this one brings out your eyes. I attempted to airbrush you too. Not that you need it or anything. :P (I just wanted practice) But you cant really tell in that size picture anyways.

Is there someone on INTJf that provides a Photoshopping public service?

It's summer, and I want to put my squirrel on a surfboard riding a wave. I'm far too untalented in that sense to pull it off on my own...

I might have to hit you up again when the ski season starts.

For Halloween, I'm thinking a pirate theme. Good fun, ha ha...
