Who has a blackberry? I do not, but all my friends mistake me for a brilliant tech person - which I am NOT. (I am an iPhone chicka).

Polling who has a Blackberry and what is a good value - what to signify a good deal for product and plan etc. Jeez, I am just a sucker for people who need help - you too?

Sorry, I don't know a good price, but--

Ugggh...Blackberries. Everyone had them at the place I interned last summer. I vowed not to get one as I saw the zombie like states it put people in. Can't actually hold a conversation with you without looking at their palm every 5 seconds.

And who wants to be available 24/7? I hope I will always be able to make that choice.

And, I heard that Palm launched Nova at CES that had all the nerds atwitter... I have not checked that out yet.

I am happy with my iPhone, particularly because I am a nomad. That and my laptop, that's all I need... and that chair... (obscure movie reference)

I agree. Everybody where I work has one (as they are given to the people who work with me) and it's literally like watching people loose the ability to function without them. The constant hand going to their belt or the continuous sending and receiving email. I refuse to get one and I have no qualms what so ever about it. Scary. Plus I would loose my mind if I knew that at any time someone could send me an email at three in the morning and expect an immediate response. No thank you.

Oh and I have an iPhone as well and love it. =p

I've had a Blackberry for 4 years, and couldn't get by without it now.

It keeps me connected to everything at all times, no matter where I am (even internationally). Messaging, email, internet, GPS... Oh, and a telephone... I'm never "out of the loop"... yes, that's 24/7.

I have a curve. I don't have anything more than a regular phone plan, tho.

I use it as a phone, an organizer, and a note pad. There are all sorts of memos in there because I can put things in it when I think of them and I don't lose them. I can also put schedule items in there and it reminds me of them.

When I first got back I bought a Curve and after a month absolutely hated it. It didn't do anything that I wanted it to do and frustrated me to no end.

The only thing that I did like about about the blackberry was the full keyboard. I don't have a lot of issues with the one on the iPhone but I did like the one on it. It's a shame that everything else on the phone I detested.

Yes, love the iPhone!

I guess the Nova has a cut and paste function - something that the iPhone should have! Have not seen the Nova so I don't know how it works or what it looks like - I am sure there is something rattling around youtube on it...

BACK OFF! EVERYONE BACK OFF RIGHT NOW!

So my original Q - would you be willing to respond, just so we keep out mitts off your prized Blackberry?

Navin: Well I'm gonna to go then. And I don't need any of this. I don't need this stuff, and I don't need you. I don't need anything except this.
[picks up an ashtray]
Navin: And that's it and that's the only thing I need, is this. I don't need this or this. Just this ashtray. And this paddle game, the ashtray and the paddle game and that's all I need. And this remote control. The ashtray, the paddle game, and the remote control, and that's all I need. And these matches. The ashtray, and these matches, and the remote control and the paddle ball. And this lamp. The ashtray, this paddle game and the remote control and the lamp and that's all I need. And that's all I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one - I need this. The paddle game, and the chair, and the remote control, and the matches, for sure. And this. And that's all I need. The ashtray, the remote control, the paddle game, this magazine and the chair.

I guess. They weren't really deal-makers or anything. I got it because it is a combination phone and notepad. Thus, it replaced the phone, notepad, and pen I was carrying in my pocket.

The camera is about what you'd expect on a phone. The speaker phone is pretty nice. You can use the other functions while you're on the phone, like taking notes while someone is talking, but only if you put them on speakerphone. That way you can hold it in front of your face while you type.

^ What the dog said.

Here’s what happened when my crackberry went down recently:

I couldn’t tell time. Haven’t worn a watch in years.
I couldn’t check email.
I couldn’t message anybody.
I couldn’t check my calendar.
I couldn’t call anybody, even on another phone. No contact list.
I couldn’t access the Internet.

I was alone in the wilderness, cut off from the grid.

Seriously though, unless you need it for work (and they pay for some or all of it) you're probably fine (and cool) with your iPhone.

Ditto, to you & the dog (mine went down & I went out & bought the exact same one. I didn't even look at other phones)

I have a blackberry but I am not glued to it as a lot of responses seem to be here. I let the battery die on it regularly. I don't call anyone so it's not reallly used for that. I won an ebay auction with it on the freeway offramp yesterday. I had found this unrecognized mt Washington vase on Sunday, so in my best pirate fashion* I asked the seller if they’d be open to doing a buy it now. They said maybe what are you offering. I put a respectable but low bid out there and said Basically, this is just an off the cuff dollar amount reply. Totally willing to entertain whatever you want for this. They were really slow on their email. I hung out at home all day long waiting for a reply. Nothing. Monday morning. Nothing. So I am on my way to work, getting off the offramp and I think to myself god it would be ironic if someone else got that BIN. I bet it is up now and it will be gone by the time I sign in. and sure enough. When I brought it up on my BB it had a BIN attached. I got it. *snipe* it totally made my day yesterday.

But other than occasional things like that I almost never use my blackberry. It’s almost exclusively an ebay tool for me. I haven’t even figured out how to view the intj forum on it v. well. It’s all muddled.

*Do-gooders frown on this practice as they consider unethical in some vague fashion or another. I think it’s because it snipes them out of the final snipe. They have no problem with getting stuff that’s been misidentified for 200% under market value, I don’t see why suggesting a buy it now is any worse.. I never suggest a buy it now price for the seller, I let them set that price unless they ask me directly. This price is generally far under what it would probably get bid up to. Of course, there’s no guarantee that it would have gone higher or lower on the open market. It’s just an odds are thing. I personally do not find it unethical because the seller has means available to them to identify unidentified pieces and to get the correct identification before putting it up for sale. Caveat emptor is a popular saying but Caveat venditor is also applicable, and commonly ignored. I have been studying and learning this topic; on and off for 20 years. I have the knowledge they do not. Unless they pay me for it I do not owe them anything. If they lose money on what they *could* have made because of lack of knowledge, that is their fault not mine. Anyhoot, I don’t think there is anything unethical in it. it’s the market place.

There are restrictions, but Obama gets to keep his BlackBerry:

For a High-Tech President, a Hard-Fought E-Victory (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)

When asked Thursday whether his advisers were trying to wean Mr. Obama from his BlackBerry, which he often wears attached to his belt, Mr. Gibbs conceded, “Nobody can do that.”
