Lets see if I can get the point of this game across.
You give a cities/countries/states Motto or Nick name or Sports team or well know slang name.
Then the next person guesses the place that you mean. Then they enter their clue for the next place.
Sample: The Big Apple. Answer New York.
OK seems easy enough so I'll get it started with an easy one and see where in the world we end up at.
The city of lights.

If you know where Serj Tankian hails from, you can figure out what country this email was sent from. They are historical enemies, and there were massacres back and forth across the borders of the respective countries.
What country was that email I received sent from?
EDIT: Serj Tankian's country of origin calls itself Hayastan, and the country I'm looking for borders it.

How about a song reference to a city?
Some of the lyrics:

take a holiday from the neighborhood.
Hop a flight to Miami Beach, or Hollywood--
But I'm taking a Gray Hound, on
the... River Line--
I'm in a ...... state of mind.
