Animated avatars are going to be disabled in the forum control panel.

I strive for neatness and readability on this forum, and think static pages accomplish this better. It would have been my intention to do this in the first place, but I didn't think about it until members had already started using them. The avatars weren't very distracting so I considered leaving them and only asking members to remove the overly distracting ones.

However, this is not something I want to have to make regular judgment calls about in the future. I'd rather not bug members about changing their avatars or have to explain where to draw the line between "acceptable" and "distracting". Not having animated avatars shouldn't detract from your experience on this forum anyway, and this will allow the moderation team to spend their time on more productive activities.

Speaking of which, can you also disable animated pictures posted via the IMG function? Since your goal is to have static pages, those would interfere as well, right? Just thought of that because of what logan235711 did...

People would still be able to provide text links to animated graphics, which wouldn't be distracting.

I doubt animated images will be anything more than sporadic. If they are distracting and inappropriate to the thread they were posted in, that would be an issue regardless of whether or not the images were animated.

The problem with animated avatars is that they show up on every post the member makes. So it only takes a few regular members using them for them to be all over the site.

Very good, I tend to get headaches from the very bright ones, or I'll get stuck staring at one!
I don't know who's it was, but someone had a rotating yin / yang logo, I ended watching it turn and turn and turn and turn. While thinking of the meaning of life, ofcourse. Untill my phone rang, that's where I woke up and when my mind returned to the surface.
