English is one of the greatest languages for expression but it has some of the worst phonetics, over time you see not only difference in the way people speak but also in how people write and spell.

Take the words: Ghoti ghuex

If you use the different pronunciations of letter combinations that can be read as fish hooks.

* gh, pronounced as 'f' as in laugh
* o, pronounced as 'i' as in women
* ti, pronounced as 'sh' as in nation

* gh, pronounced as 'h' as in Van Gogh
* ue, pronounced as 'oo' as in hue
* x, pronounced as 'ks' (the only one that I could make better).

Anyone else want to try it?

ghoti is a common one - I made up ghuex.

ah I remember "Ghoti" from my Spanish linguistics class.

However I can't remember what we had with it. It was something more than "ghoti".

I'll get back to you if I remember.

Oh! I'll exclude the (albeit silent and not pronounced - let's just say it's ****ing and ****ing is all not pronounced) expletive.

Veruci Ghoti

You need fish hooks to catch fresh fish. That's the moral of the story.
