Is it possible to reserve my current avatar for later use (to put it on ice, so to speak) while I experiment with making and using my own avatars? If so, how do I do this? I don't want to lose my current one, but I'd like to be able to switch back and forth.

I don't think so, however, you can always save the image and use it custom whenever you please.

I can't think how something like this could be done. There'd be no avatars left within a day. I would suggest somebody looking to "control" their avatar start with a custom avatar to begin with.

There'd be no avatars left within a day.No, if a user is allowed to reserve only one avatar at a time.
The option also may be available only for those with more than 15 posts (for example), and/or for limited time.

I had the same question before: Question: After change, is there a period of time when my old avatar is still reserved for me and cannot be used by others? Just curious.

My working (dirty) solution: Save your avatar image before changing. If someone takes it, you can still use it as external avatar. Dirty, because then two users could have the same avatar.

Make a second account and have it use the old avatar till you need it.

A second account is against forum rules.

No, if a user is allowed to reserve only one avatar at a time.

And thus halve the available avatars.

"Awww, but I want to reserve 2 avatars..." "Awww, but I want to reserve 3 avatars..."

Make a second account and have it use the old avatar till you need it.

As Syn said, it's against the rules.

- Admin know when people do this.
- Admin merge multiple accounts together anyway
- Persist and admin ban mutiple accounts.

Like it's been said. Just save the image now. You can just upload it later as if were "your own."

Now that you mention it, I'm taking it as soon as you switch. ;)

If you've been around for a while and have had the same avatar for a long time, you may send me a PM request to take it out of the gallery. I actually make more avatars for each category than I upload so I usually have a few available to take its place. I've done this for a few members already and it's not that big of a deal, but I do ask for patience if I don't respond to the request right away as I've been very busy lately and this isn't a high priority request.
