I know we're introverts and some of us don't like "outside," but do you like camping/hiking/the wilderness in general?

I regularly go hiking and canoe tripping. It's just not frequently regularly. I also like cycling.

i do a lot of outdoor activities a lot - hiking, climbing, diving, cycling.... i actually made a bloggie here "I-to-Nowehere Travellers/Trekkers Journal" (INTJ). if you want to post your experiences or pictures of your outdoor activities, feel free to do so.
going outdoors is my own way of recharging myself. i live in a city and city life has always been an ass for me so i have to breathe fresh air. travelling is my uber i side which my mom has a difficulty in controlling because whenever i have problems, i wander to some unknown or unchartered area and be gone for a week. most of the time i do it with selected and trusted companions, most of them are inxx (some of our e friends who never joined us call us "hermits"). i seldom do it alone for safety reasons however if i do it alone, most of the time i plan it 1-6 months prior to date.
:edit: i actually thought that it's e people who are into such stuff but then, as far as my observation goes within my group of friends, it's mostly the inxx who are into outdoors while the exxx go out partying and socializing. outdoor adventures has always been a solemn learning experience for me especially mountaineering. i actually got 101 reasons why go for mountaineering... i'll post it in a while

I'm always outdoors as much as possible. I fish as much as possible, hike, spelunk, etc. I climbed Mt. Katahdin in Maine about a month ago. I also own a boat that I don't use nearly enough. I am up for nearly any outdoor activity.
When I lived in St. Paul MN I nearly went nuts. The urban sprawl there is so extensive it takes nearly 45 minutes to get anywhere I consider remotely nice.

I am an other for the light burns but if it is cold and wintery outside I will spend all day and night outside but if it is spring or summer lock me in a closet.

I am addicted to the outdoors. I am sad when I have a job that requires me to be away from it, like now. Most of my favorite activities are outdoor related. I have a rather "I" response to extreme stress (especially any emotional things I need to deal with) and find some secret hidey place outdoors to meditate. I tell one or two people where I'm going so they know where I went in case I don't come back.

I absolutely LOVE camping and hiking. In my current environment I don't get to do much of it, but I grab every chance I can. I love seeing new animals and hiking to the top of peaks and looking out over the landscape. I'm not a spiritual person, but that's the closest thing that I can relate to spirituality. I think about all of the processes that went into the development of all that I see (without getting caught up in the details) and I feel alive. It's one of the few times that I can just be. My mind stops trying to figure out and rationalize everything. I can let go of all the restraints of society that frustrate me (for at least a little while). I can feel connected to the world, when usually I feel so out of sync.

When I lived in Minnesota, I would go boat fishing and ice fishing. Just loved them! I also loved biking around White Bear Lake (it is 10 miles to bike around). Now that I live in Southern California, I don't go out much. I chauffeur my daughter and her friends to the beach and walk the dog. I also do Heart Walks, Liver Walks, Organ Donation Walks, etc. I am also going to walk in the San Diego Half Marathon on Jan. 20 (13.1 miles).

I wouldn't consider myself a "woodsy", camping-type but I do like being out of doors. Being in Michigan means that I confine myself indoors during the winter months – I say "confine myself" because I HATE the cold. I absolutely abhor cold and snow and ice, so I stay away from cold as best as I can from November through March.
However, when the warmth comes back I'm all in. Most of my warm weather activities are motor-sports related, or gardening related. I love watching things grow, so I usually plant a vegetable garden in the spring and fuss with it all summer long. I guess in another life I would have been a farmer!

Nothing quite like hiking through some dense forest in northern michigan.
Going outside and liking the outdoors are different things.
I don't leave my room because I don't feel like dealing with people, but I'd go to the Arboretum.
I love the outdoors...
I love the sun.
I love the rain when it's warm.
I love the snow when it's cold.

I like experiencing the outdoors and Nature completely by myself. Animals don't count.

I agree with paul v and others. The outdoors when it's the true outdoors, (not RVing or anything) is awesome. I love taking hikes, canoe trips, or long backpacking trips with myself or a few other people. When it gets over 3 people the focus shifts from nature to the people. That's totally ok though, sometimes going out into the woods with a group of friends is what you need sometime.

I am not so much an out of doors type. It is just another place, most often useful to myself when I seek to avoid others. I'll take long walks. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. I usually explore a place out, if I'll be in the area for a while. I prefer indoors mostly because that's where my stuff is. That's where I get most things done. Also, Yay for cold versus hot!
I don't like camping or hiking with a bunch of people who have their own "agenda", like they decide that today they will walk from point A to point B and then you have no choice but to follow them, sigh when they stop on an impulse to have lunch in a little restaurant and then talk and talk endlessly to depart three hours later, completely forgetting the previous plan that had been submitted to everyone...
But I really do enjoy exploring the town (especially at night, it's so quiet and relaxing, and you feel like you can actually hear yourself), new areas...
As for nature, I like new landscapes, the feel of the wind or the rain (when it's not raining cats and dogs, but just slightly raining and you feel very aware of your surroundings), but after some time, if there's nothing else to do or see around, I get bored out of my mind and then I'm thinking of some books I've read, or what are my plans for the week...

Yes I love the outdoors. Cycling for hours in the middle of nowhere.
The size of it is humbling and the scenery energising.
Best of all, just occasionally you'll hear absolute silence and realise how life is otherwise full of noise- even the hum of your PC fan whirring as you read this.
Like seeing inky blackness on a moonless night, there's something zen-like to temporarily losing a sensor. As though you've suddenly gone from N to 100% S for a few seconds.

Hum, I think differently of complete darkness. I think it completely shuts down your sensory system, and you have to rely on your intuition (e.g. an extension of your regular senses). I think it's why I like going out in the dark so much, it's like an orgy for my N
I enjoy a pleasant walk in our neighborhood, but other than that I'm outside if I have to be. To me the definition of camping is staying in a hotel.

Yes I see your point- how we'd gradually adapt to dark by using more N... but for a few seconds I find it feels as though you're flummoxed by the darkness and your here and now senses become momentarily heightened, in a relaxed sort of way. Same with total silence.

I think the outdoors are awesome.
I love to be outside - I just don't go out for lack of time a lot.
But I feel...at peace outdoors. Especially with horses.
I like country night skies speaking of the night...they're beautiful.

I enjoy being outdoors when its warm outside. I like the feel of the sun warming me. Fresh air is always nice. How much time I spend outdoors depends on the things I have planned to do.
I have only camped once on a vacation in Florida, and don't plan on doing so again.

Hmn.. if the air is cool and the wind is breezy, I am so there. But it's pretty humid here year 'round, so I'm a happy little hermit.
To me the definition of camping is staying in a hotel.
The outdoors are nice, but they are just that.
I like flying... its a spirtual thing to fly across Canada / America and watch the clouds in their processions.

I'm glad to hear that there are others here with similar interests. I love the outdoors, especially fly-fishing. Does anyone else here fly-fish?

I love fishing, I'd rather be doing that than nearly anything else. I have not fly-fished, however I was out in the woods last weekend and found some bamboo. I cut it down and am about to make my own fly rod. So I will fly fish soon.

I love being outside. Being stuck indoors and sitting still is my main bone to pick with my editing job (otherwise, it's awesome). That's why I love working in agriculture; I enjoy being outside, and I like that I don't have to go to the gym for exercise.
