Yes, I know the results of this poll mean nothing lol
I myself became near-sighted 4 years ago. I think it's something like 20/40 now :(
I switch back and forth between glasses and contacts. Actually, need to go get my vision tested soon, as my prescription expired.

I really need to get a new set of lenses. I got mine back in highschool (7 years ago now?) and haven't been back to get my eyes tested since. They still work better, but they're not perfect anymore.

Shush, that's not corrective, that's just so I can look pimp. Whut.

I'm nearsighted as well although I only wear my glasses when in class or driving.

I wear contacts. I haven't worn my glasses in years. I got them in 7th grade and after about a week I stopped wearing them because I hate how they look. I've tried to find some new ones that I like (my visions changed since the old ones anyways), but I want them to be ones I'd actually wear in public and they're expensive, so I want to be absolutely sure that I like them (I'm kind of indecisive and picky, so this is taking a while).

As a result of being told i had to go to bed at 8:30 all through primary school with the lights off i had to satiate myself with reading by the crack of the door for about 5 years. Now I wear glasses. :D it was worth it.

I thought I should ask this... but it seems a lot pf people thesedays need corrective lenses anyway.

But yeah... I've been wearing glasses since gr 4 =/
The correction is too much for me not to wear it.
I can't see size 12 font clearly from as close as 6 inches away. :-[

I've tried contacts, but lack of sleep has reduced my ability to stick it on every morning. I only wear them when I go out for exercise/special occasions.

I lost count how many glasses I've worn. Having glasses is not a bad thing, being an INTJ because it makes you look smart. Oh yeah, I'm nearsighted and wear it everyday.

I can't get used to glasses, so I wear contact lenses. I really need to get off the computer more often.

Never had to wear anything to help me see, despite doing all kinds of things people told me were bad for my eyes. Funny I'm in the minority here.

Farsighted with really bad astigmatism. Can't read a computer screen twelve inches in front of me without them at all. Even 6 inches away probably.

Lines are the killer. So writing I normally can't read. Everything else has the right general shape that even if it's slightly fuzzy it's OK. Having astigmatism stinks because if I didn't have it I could probably get away without glasses. Alas, it is quite bad.

I've always had astigmatism but refused to wear glasses - mostly because I mercilessly teased my two sisters 'cause they both are nearsighted and have always worn glasses.

Then, at about age 45, I noticed that I was getting daily headaches reading computer screens. After much badgering from my wife I got my eyes checked and *BAM !* I was off to glasses-ville. Now, I have to wear glasses to see anything closer than 3 feet and it bugs the hell out of me.

I guess all of that bad karma I sent out to my sisters has caught up with me! :'(

That's what happens when you stare at computer monitors a lot.
My nearsightedness has stopped getting worse, but my astigmatism is still going...

It started when I used to bring books and read everywhere (even in places without sufficient light). I used to hide under my blanket with a flashlight to read late into the night =/

I understand that. I first noticed it when I thought the markers on the white boards were dead. It ended up being my astigmatism. So even far away I'm pretty screwed with text.

Like I'm less than two feet away from this computer and only because I know what I'm typing I can sort of confirm I have it right. And my browser has a spell checker so I'd see something red under a word. Reading a lab report at 100% is very hard to do without contacts or glasses on. Text, especially that on TVs or computers is what really gets me.

However I don't mind wearing them because I think it can make you look intelligent ;)

I'm technically farsighted but it's not that bad. It's just my astigmatism....

No glasses for me!

I had to wear them when I was a kid, from around three till ten years old, because I had a lazy eye. I was one of the few kids in school who wore them, they were huge and orange-pink. Now it seems that tons of kids wear them and thanks to Harry Potter it's even cool for them to wear them.

I used to be very nearsighted (since 8th grade), but last year I had LASIK surgery, and now my vision is better than 20/20. Best money I've spent in ages.

I have perfect vision, as far as I can tell. Everyone else in my family has them. They don't like it when I laugh at them about it. ::)

My eye degree is currently around 300, with my left eye being the weaker one, so yes.

I use these special hard contact lenses that are worn while you sleep at night, during which they mold your cornea into one that is able to see in 20/20 (sometimes even 15/20- thing is, I have mild astigmatism though) vision in the morning after you remove them. So you see, they are teh REAL corrective lenses! :cheesy:

I'd would be willing to explain more about them if anyone is interested.

Not any more. For about fifteen years, I was nearsighted: 20/50 left, 20/100 right, with moderate astigmatism in both. Wore glasses for most of that time; due to allergies, contacts were too uncomfortable for anything but formal events. Bit the bullet last year and got LASIK. 24 hours later, I was 20/20 in both eyes. A week after, I was 20/15. Best money I've ever spent.

I have gotten a trifle paranoid about eye damage since, though. Not "corrective" lenses, but I won't wear sunglasses that aren't ANSI Z87.x rated.

contacts -- my vision is near-sighted like hell.

No, I insist on wearing my glasses as a trademark. I have glasses for 13-14 years so I could not image life without them.

I had perfect vision till I was about 15, then I started becoming nearsighted. I'm convinced it's because of the amount of reading (and lack of sleeping) I've been doing over the years. I haven't taken the time to research it, however.

To be on the safe side, though, I will definitely safeguard my children (none yet) from developing nearsightedness. Personally I wear glasses only when i need them and I try to sit at least 3 feet from my computer screen when I'm at home. I r3ealize that lately I spend around 10 hours a day in front of a computer.

My vision is about 20/200 in one eye. Corrected, it's about 20/100. My other eye is blind.
I wear sunglasses, though. Other glasses look horrible on me.

Glasses since the first grade. I switched to contacts a few years ago because I kept breaking glasses. My vision got poorer and poorer every year that I wore glasses but since I've had contact lenses my vision hasn't really changed though I learned that I am colorblind.

I've had glasses since I was 7 years old and my eyes have only gotten worse.
I need to be about 3 inches from the screen to make out the text if I don't have my glasses on.
